hey guys, i'm working on a piece and, having never painted on photoshop before, i'd like to hear what others have to say! http://rniq.deviantart.com/art/Palanquin-WIP-664740829 i'd love to get some critique of my art in general as well, though, so feel free to go for that. it's alright to be harsh, i'd like your honest opinion. dA - more finished up stuff tumblr - shippy doodles and other stuff

thanks in advance!

Anywho! I think your painting looks great! :D The shadowing and lighting are spot on, and i especially like the details you've made on the moss growing in the surroundings :D

I think one thing that i could suggest is the path of the tears? Maybe curve it a bit to kinda emphasize the shape of the girl's face? :o

I hope this helps! ^^

I think it looks great. I really like your use of color composition and how you've made the scene feel tilted. The moss has a sense of softness to it as well. That little tilt in the composition is my favorite part though. I think my only issue would be the shading on her(?) face. I feel that with the current source of light her hair should cast shadows under her fringe and on the upper side of her cheeks. I feel that the area above the corner of her mouth should be in shade as well, because that part isn't generally protruding enough to be lit. Maybe try putting some more details on the roses as well? Objects on the foreground or ones that should be focal points ought to be more detailed than the background. Over-all I really-really like it though.

Sorry I took a bit long to reply! I wasn't home for a couple days. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! You're right, the shading on her face is really weird as it is, I'll make sure to fix that. And oh yeah, I guess the palanquin on the background is getting more attention than the foreground, huh. I do plan on blurring it out a little for a depth of field effect, but I will add some detail to the flowers as well. Thank you for critiquing, this helps a lot!

It looks pretty good overall, the only thing that irks me detail wise is that her hair looks like it's been woven into a continuous loop instead of being two visibly seperate locks of hair. This can be corrected with better contrasted shading. You dont have to completely redraw her hair.

Oops, didn't see this message before. But yeah, her hair is... actually a continuous loop, haha. Thanks though!

Thank you! I'm really glad you think so. <:

This is the first thing you do on Photoshop?! Well done then, it's a really good job! Love your color choices. Only thing I don't like (but it's a WIP, so maybe it's not a problem anymore) is that sort of triangle behind her. First thing my eyes look at it's her face (thanks to her hair, they really caught the eye), but after that I immediatly look at that triangle and it's just pointless. I'm very curious to see it finished :) Keep up working with Photoshop, I'm sure that with your skills you'll be able to paint wonderful things with it.
