Aww, not Fates? I think that one is better. But anyway, my top fav characters from Awakening are: Stahl Virion Gaius Cordelia Cherche Henry (He is AWESOME!! One of his crit quotes is "hehehe you're gonna die now!") Gregor (even though he is kind of creepy and seems to flirt with both genders of Robin)

I would say do NOT use Frederick even though he is pretty buff at the start because he will eat up your exp for other characters and you will soon find yourself in a world of hurt. Just use him for pairup with Lissa or Robin.

I liked Fates (Conquest, Revelations, Birthright) more than Awakening because the characters I think are fleshed out a bit more and dont feel so gimicky. My fav characters from that game are:

Birthright: Jakob (he is an awesome butler!) Kaze Hana (cool samurai) Kaden (the best shapeshifter in the whole FE universe. His promoted Nine-tail form is just beautiful) Takumi (even though i kind of hate him, he is pretty good)

Conquest: Jakob Kaze Niles (superior to Virion in all ways. Love Niles) Leo (second favorite mage. Soren will always be number 1) Selena Xander Effie (she is a reaaaallly good general if she's leveled up right)

I love the My Castle mechanic and you can dress your characters up. I gave myself a cool feather crown. The story of Revelations gets really ridiculous from what i saw from watching Mangs on youtube. (he is hilarious too. Him and his friend just make fun and do funny voiceovers for the characters and made Takumi sound like a nerdy hipster)

The FE series is pretty great even though my experience with the games isnt the greatest. My first ever FE game was FE: Path of Radiance for the gamecube. I still own Radiant Dawn for the Wii and im hoping they will release virtual console versions of both games because I have a special feel for them. Oh man, the music of Fates is so amazing I bought the OST on Amazon. The cutscenes of both are pretty amazing too.

Oh, some other tips about FE, pair up is a new mechanic in Awakening that is improved in Fates and I suggest using that when you can. Dont rush in either. You can get in trouble quickly if you rush maps because some of them will have reinforcements. Also pairing up improves relationships and increases dodge, crit, hit, avoid chances so pairing up is important. I dont know how much more i should say before i ruin the game :x

I heard (or well read reviews) that fates was a let down compared to awakening so I went with awakening first. ;O interesting that you say the opposite, I hope I like fe enough (or rather am good enough to progress to the end) so I can get fates too

I wish more things were not download only bc I feel more comfortable paying for a physical cartridge though I know that can easily stop working as well xD

Funny that you say Chrom and Sumia are a cute pair up...............lol When will you get the game? Also it is hardly a spoil by looking up the characters you can have. Oh, the Spotpass characters you can get are great too! Cant spoil those characters though...well my favorite would be Priam. He has nothing to do with the story whatsoever and is basically the offspring of Path of Radiance's hero, Ike. That isnt spoiling anything :p

I think I like Fates because the music is nice, you can customize your castle, and the characters to me are more likable. The story isnt that great though. FE is getting that reputation where their characters are the meat of the game and the story is just ...silly...

awakening was my first foray into fire emblem after watching a friend live-tweet through some old ones. i thought it was fun, i hope you like it! ;w; freddybear is my favorite husband with lon'qu a close second 3 i played regular difficulty / no permadeath, since i was really only in it for support convos and dead people aren't great for matchmaking lmao. i never bought fates 'cause i didn't like having to buy part of it through the e-shop, but then it felt like everyone i knew was getting fates and i was missing out. the phone game is... my sort-of replacement while i think about conquest i guess, o:

hopefully this isn't too spoilery, but my one vaguely remembered tip (aka the thing i always wanted to do but never bothered with because i'm lazy) is to reclass lots of your ladies into pegasus knights and then promote 'em to dark fliers, because then they all learn galeforce and get an extra turn after killing an enemy >:) just watch out for archers while you're leveling up the air force! i remember my first playthrough, i thought units like sumia were really delicate but no... i was just dumb and not paying attention to weaknesses /)w(\

lol aw you mean you can't pair up with ghosts? :P BOO yeah I saw the whole choose your side bit which is GREAT as far as customizing and story goes but it means dishing out monies separately and then you have the whole combined thing and dlc and ugh u___u just give me the game when I dish out money please, I can pay more upfront just no "dlc" extras please

yeah i was super bummed when i saw i'd missed the special edition and that was the only way to get all three of 'em on a cartridge so i figured i'd just wait for a good sale or something and figure out which one had more people i wanted to see first, haha.

& yep! there's one more bit to that, but i don't know if you looked up relationships when you looked at who's who so i'll leave that out since it's definitely a spoiler o: the only other tip i have is save often, though admittedly i had to do that because i'm terrible at "rescue this many villagers" objectives and my last save would always be like a full chapter ago (which was when the game prompted you to save lmao)

others are still a work in progress, it's hard to bring out like a level 2 when I have all these cool pairings already T__T /flails

it took me like 3 tries to get Gaius because I thought in order to get him I had to "spare" him as an enemy so I tried to avoid killing him and it was only on the third try that I realized I have to get Chrom to talk to him .____.; oops

so yeah, definitely saving every time I get =___=

Oh yea, and pretty much make all your females Dark Flier units because at level 15 they get galeforce and that is an extremely broken skill. I would also suggest waiting to get the kids until after you get galeforce and put it on the 5th slot. Whatever is on the 5th slot, that is what the child inherits from their parents.

When you get Henry, he is awesome. Everyone seems to like Tharja but I dont like her one bit and I think she's annoying. Oh and to recruit units you have to get Chrom to talk to them. In one of the spotpass battles you have to make Chrom talk to that unit 3 times which is annoying. Saving after every enemy phase is really good too.

I got the special edition of Fates and I got cute keychains. I gave my gamestop buddies Azura and Ryoma and I kept Xander. No one touches Xander. Wish they had some of those characters in Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Instead they had Cain, Draug Naverre, Marth, Caeda, Tharja, and Virion...That is another really fun game. But we are getting off topic here.

I haven't played Awakening yet, and since Fire Emblem has a bad habit of changing mechanics and skills between every game, I don't think I can be much help. x3 I don't want to give advice only to find that it doesn't work like that in Awakening.

it's been a while, but i think there's a menu option where you can view supports/relationships? it should show you options for support pairs in-game, even if you don't have a party member yet (i think they'll just be blacked out instead). it's good that you've paired chrom off, that way you can't accidentally marry him like i did, lmao. vaike and miriel is so cute! i had fun with vaike's supports, i remember he and maribelle were really cute, and so was battle buddies vaike & lon'qu. everyone is cute!! ;w;

& yeah, gaius' recruitment is what i was thinking of; "keep x person alive so chrom can say hi" was the worst x;

so do I upgrade to dark flier before level 15 to get galeforce for the females? because I read it's best to change classes level 20 but then I'd miss galeforce? /confused n__n;

what sucks is trying to figure out how to level up people I haven't managed to level up Donnel is still a lowsy level 2 u___u and the cleric girls Mirabelle and Lissa take an obscene time to level up for me at least I got Lissa supporting Ricken so she has spouse level support now BUT she's still at like level 7 =___= ugh and maybe I'm doing something wrong but it's either she tries to lag behind the attacking units and heals for leveling up or she goes with Ricken but I found that if she's on her own the enemy units sure like attacking / approaching her en masse so she dies like almost right after she heals someone D:

he proposed at the end of a chapter to my unit! he's forcibly married off at one point (by the story i mean, he proposes so i guess??? he's happy lol) to either sumia or female avatar or a few others, and i didn't know during my first play through so i had some supports with him and my unit and BOOM, MARRIED. i was like ??? wELL OK THEN,, but it added some extra tension for my first time with the story so i guess that was ok lmao (the second time around i knew what was up so i made sure to save and tried to get him to marry olivia but i guess i'd battled next to him too much or something and it took like three tries before he proposed to olivia and not me lmao gdi chrom)

it was such a pain to level up low level units :c i think what i did for healers was buy reeking boxes and use them at arena ferox since that had no terrain advantages, and then kind of surround whoever i was trying to level up with tanks like frederick or kellam. that way they'd (hopefully) take a little damage and my cleric could heal and level up. that took forever (and really only worked if your defenders were already strong), but it got better once the healers were stronger and could survive battles on their own, and eventually they could promote to war cleric and defend themselves that way.

for units like donnel i'd have him follow others around to finish their fights -- that way the baby unit got experience but there was less of a risk of retaliation/ko from enemy units. but that was a pain too, bc you needed strong units to keep the baby safe, but not too strong bc you didn't want any one-hit ko's. i think i used mages for that? the mage would do the initial damage with baby unit out of the danger area for safety, the enemy unit would advance and strike at the mage, baby unit would hopefully finish off the enemy unit. heals for everyone. it was a total pain (is a total pain, i'm doing this in the phone game rn!), so hopefully someone knows a better way ; o;

I think the GBA games are all pretty similar to each other when you actually play, except FE8 has the over world map like Awakening does. Mechanics on the same continent are slightly different too like FE9 and Fe10. In FE9, when you remove a character skill, it disappears but in its squeal, you keep it and you can slap it on another character. In FE9 though, you can give bonus experience to a character to give them an extra level up but if you do this in FE10, you can get three stats vs a "normal" level up. It's enough to be a little annoying.

If you do like Awakening though, I do suggest looking up the other games! Awakening does have a lot of bits and pieces from the other games, even little trivia bits.

I finally got to the part where he's married off. Mine was to Sumia. YAY

yeah, that's more or less my strategy for leveling up baby units ngl, I was KIND OF hoping Olivia would show up stronger so that she could carry the weight of the two units I failed to level up thus far (Donnel and Kellam t__t) I mean my Mirabelle is still a crap level 4 but at least she's married off to Stahl so. just gimme the marriages pls and ty haha. xD and I did the same to Lissa with Ricken carrying her throughout the pairing up and at least when they separated on the map but were next to each other he could protect her. So I've managed to get her to level 11. Even though it feels like all those heals were a literal waste. Healed like 1 or 2 hp at times just so she could get some exp.

I'm looking forward to the gaiden on 3ds one coming out later this year :3 at least before 3ds officially dies for the sake of the nintendo switch, they can give us one last fire emblem game c: looks like I'll still be playing for some time considering I haven't gotten halfway through awakening yet

Not the way it works in Pokemon. :P Basically, if you do things like clear the chapter fast enough, allowing everybody to escape before Ike, keeping some the enemies alive, etc. gives you some bonus experience that you can use at the base to go and give to anybody you want. I think it basically replaces the grinding at arenas.

aw bummer, I was thinking exactly of exp share in pokemon haha :P sounds good but does it equate with the actual exp earned if you had defeated those enemies on the battlefield? ;O I'd be like nope must destroy everything

Depends on the chapter, actually! Most of the time, if you kill everything and you do it fast, you get a lot of EXP and a lot of BEXP too. I can think of two chapters were if you kill the "innocents" then you don't get a lot of BEXP and you lose out on awesome items. One of those chapters, you literally have to shove all of the priests out of the way if you want the awesome staff that heals everybody. There's one chapter were I believe BEXP > EXP if you end up doing a pacific run of it but it's super difficult to do it.

I only started playing with Awakening, when I got my 3DS a few years back, but Fire Emblem has quickly become one of my favourite series. :D I've played through Awakening a bunch of times, always on Classic mode to keep it fresh and force me into new choices. Favourites are probably Tharja, Sumia and Lon'qu.

Fates is a bunch of fun, too, and I do recommend it (I have the Special Edition and it's treasured possession; I stalked its release for weeks). It's a tad flawed but far more balanced than Awakening, in my opinion, and Conquest is a brutal thrill-ride that will test you to the limits. I've been pretty wrapped up in other games so only going through my second playthrough at the moment, but each match still manages to test me.

saving allies is super annoying, I rarely manage to get in time to kill them off and it's not even that I can't one battle defeat them, it just takes a while to reach them. u__u I should play more strategically though because I'm sure pegasus fliers would reach in time. /fail

idk how you do it on classic mode at the beginning everyone and their mother died during battle then I had a spell of no one dying for the longest time but it still happens especially if they are paired up with non-spouses t__t teach me your waysss
