I know there are a whole bunch of threads like this and believe me I full intend on going through them when I'm not on my phone so I can make a little list. But I'd love some more personal suggestions as well. Here's about what I like.

Dark tower is probably my favorite. I like Harry Potter but I like the new hp headcanons I read on Tumblr more (Draco was a werewolf Hermione is black fight me) I enjoy Anita Blake (sexy vampires and were-everythings) I just read the chrysalids and it wasn't bad husband wants me to read dune next. Ummm. I liked girl on the train more than gone girl. I really don't want any stories about boys. Or by boys? Idk I like fantasy and sci-fi as long as the sci-fi isn't super in depth about why things work. I wouldn't mind something grungy and dirty.

Or anything about water dragons I have never once read a book about water dragons and I think I would like that. I mean like leviathans and shit.

Maybe the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews? It's urban fantasy (like Anita Blake) with shapeshifters, magic, supernatural, and a strong kick-ass heroine. I'd say romance isn't that big, more secondary, but I only got to the fourth book, so no idea about the drama in later books (personally I don't like too much what I can "unnecessary" romance drama like love triangles or quadruples, etc., so currently this series is up my alley).

The Fifth Season and The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemison. I cannot recommend these enough.

I got distracted with some other things and was playing a lot of Pokemon during my reading hours plus I found the first half of the first book to be a little tough to get through. But the end was good and I am making it through the second book much faster. I like this one. I just wanted to thank you for the recommendation. I got i think the whole series downloaded and waiting for me.

I didn't have any luck on my search actually finding these books but I'll try again later.

I know it's been months since I got these recommendations so neither of you probably even remember posting here lol

You should deff read Dune, it is a fabulous book. Very long but a great story, can be unnecessarily complex at times. I'm not really selling you on Dune, am I? Haha.

A book series that I adore and recommend to absolutely everyone is the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane. It's a series of coming of age stories about young wizards where the magic system uses a lot of real world science. Very funny but also very emotional. But if you do decide to read them then please pick up the New Millennium Editions. They correct significant timeline issues and the author edited the books to correct the representation of an Autistic character based on feedback from Autistic fans. The first book is called 'So You Want to be a Wizard'. ((The fourth book is my favorite, it's called A Wizard Abroad))

Another book that I would highly recommend is Six of Crows. It was a fabulous dark comedy adventure story with incredibly written characters. 100/10, do recommend.

Yes, hello. Excuse me friends.

A book series I always recommend is The Unwind series. Fantastic Dystopian novel with themes that hint at how close it could be our future. (What dystopian doesnt?)

Cant give too much insight without spoiling, but its set in a future where organ donors are in high demand, they are treated like designer items, and they fill the market by "unwinding" troubled and unwanted children, without their consent. Its a brutally sick book, its so good though. I coudnt put it down.

It does have some politically motivated stuff in there that goes against what i believe in, but even so it was written fantastically.

A book I had great enthusiasm for is Flatland by Edwin A. Abbot. My first exposure was in the form of an adaptation from the Childcraft series. About a decade later I found an annotated edition in a mail order catalogue. The first reading was with greater enthusiasm, but later I found that rereading had exposed concepts I took as offensive. The annotations make it salvageable.

Still my favorite was the journey to the lowest dimension used. Strange character, this King of Pointland.

Old, and obsolete.
