So yesterday I went to a friends party and they had alcohol. I tried a tiny amount ;and even though it tasted aweful, I gained confidence, i wasn't extremely shy as i was when i first went there. My memory may have gotten a tiny bit better. The headache was small so i took milk n ate something and its gone now. I don't know what to do I know its not good to drink but I'm actually feeling better. No shyness or being nervous...for once I'm actually relaxed in my life. I guess what i should ask is there any medications do you think that could cause these good things the alcohol did? Like no anxiety, being more relaxed. I know there probably isn't one for confidence^_^;
lock please
There's a good chance that what you experienced wasn't from the alcohol at all, but rather the placebo effect. It would have been your brain and your expectations that did all the work, not your tiny drink.
But if you're looking for a chemical fix, I would strongly suggest speaking to a doctor rather than asking an internet forum for potential medical prescriptions.
I'm not so sure, but thanks for that idea:) True, i was just curious what people might say.
I'd sort of have to agree with Arya, if the effect was immediate and/or you only had a tiny amount, it was probably a placebo effect.
However, I do very much understand what you're talking about, I am very nervous and anxious around people normally as well and it feels nice to lose some of that when drinking. There are some medications that are supposed to help with anxiety, but again that's something you need to talk to a doctor about.
Alcohol does not make you more confident, it muffles your inhibitions. And that can be extremely dangerous, so please please PLEASE be careful. If you have social anxiety, you should look into talking to a professional about your problems. They can medicate you for anxiety and depression, but not for just feeling shy. Generally, you will only be prescribed medication if your problem prevents you from functioning normally in everyday situations. If that sounds like you, then it would be a good idea to see a doctor. Otherwise, just wanting medication for being shy would kind of be drug abuse. Either way, speak to a professional :)
Yeah, there's quite a few, but the problem is that they're mostly either prescription-only or illegal :P though there are lots of anxiolytic drugs out there, some of which are in legal grey areas or can just be ordered... but it's not so straightforward. They might be currently undergoing trials, or only available in Russia, or very expensive and difficult to get hold of. On top of that their effectiveness can be dubious or differ greatly based on personal accounts.
If you were that determined, I'd recommend you look into it at least. You may as well see a professional, although they'll probably suggest behavioural therapy over drugs unless you're extremely anxious... which may be of help to you still? It's up to you, eh
