It's been a long time since we've had a working forum search (sorry!) but we've finally got a new version here.

Some notes:

1. This is actually significantly more powerful than the tiny form suggests. Right now it will search for your exact phrase, but that can be changed to allow searches like "Keith Candy" which would find any post with both of those words in it, more like a google search! Right now this isn't enabled. 2. This won't show posts after this post has been made. Once we push it for good it'll keep track of posts being added to the site. fixed!
2. Hopefully I've got the permissions right, but in the event you see a post that you shouldn't please ping me and I'll get it sorted.
3. It's built into the new forums system, which makes it easier to display with the actual forum layout unlike in the past.
4. Right now it just shows 50 posts without any paging. This will be changed in the future!
5. Does not currently search post titles.

So right now it just displays posts that use the word I searched for, all put together like a thread would be... But there's no where (that I can see) to actually go to the original topic or post for any of these posts. This doesn't seem very helpful? I'd rather it show like on the admin posts page, for example, the text of the posts with links to go to where the actual post is located. Otherwise I'm not sure how this feature would meant to be used.

I'm happy to see the forum search is coming back, it feels like it's been years.

just did a search of the word "testing" and got a post from a forum group that I'm not a member of. is that what you mean by the permissions? :)

It just keeps loading if I search for things like "I can't", "mom's", and "I'm not sure"

I did a search for "steamworks pets" and it returned an error 500 to the console. I thought maybe it was because there were no results (maybe everyone types "steamwork pets" without the S?) but I tried another search with no results and it just returns a blank page, with no errors.

if there are many many topics with a subject, shouldn't there be pages to click below? to see them all? or it's just (exemple) the last 20 and that's it?

I did some testing, and I'm still sometimes seeing posts from forum groups I'm not in when I look up certain phrases. O: I don't know if it's relevant that I used to be in the forum group or not.

THIS IS AWESOME!!! If only the search could include posts that use item pictures like , then that would be amazing. But, I don't know how complicated that would be.

@ Keith - I did a search for the word "avatar", and it came up with a post from Wizarding, a group that I've never been a part of. I clicked on the topic, and it gave me an error saying I wasn't a part of the group.

Edit: Well, never mind about what I said about the item search. IT WORKS! Thank you so much, this search feature is super helpful! :)

I tried the "avatar" search again, and I didn't find the post from Wizarding. Yay, the change is working! Also, the new posts are showing up.

Dreams do come true! Why do different (very common) words turn up different numbers of results? Will we get pagination to access results past the most recent ~30-45?

More distance between posts (or larger title component) would help differentiate the posts, since they are all from different topics.
