Hello! So after a recent run-in with accidentally using a toy that changed my pet species that I really didn't want to happen, and finding that others had this happen before, I suggest we add a lock feature for pets. A small lock button could be located somewhere on the pets page, allowing the pet to quickly be locked or unlocked. Locking the pet would mean that no color changing or species altering potions/elixirs/items could be used on it. That way even if you accidentally select to use it on that pet, it will take you to a page saying something like "your pet is currently locked. To use this item please unlock the pet first on the pets page." A locked pet would still be able to anything else a normal pet could do, just nothing that would allow aesthetic changes, including the pet zapper. By default most pets would be unlocked, allowing you to freely change them. But, for people who are happy with their pet's current look, locking would be a convenient way to ensure that the pet remains unchanged. Of course you can unlock the pet again anytime after locking, if you do so wish to change it. This would just be a small measure to completely prevent accidentally changing pets in any way. Honestly, I think this is more of a case of being sure, absolutely sure about which pet is your active pet first before doing anything that could change your pet on site. Also, with species changing items their description will tell you the purpose so it's always a good plan in general to read the description first.

I don't necessarily think a lock feature is necessary as this seems, more or less, to me, to be something that can be solved with careful reading and careful planning on site.

I can see some benefit for having it for a finished pet so you don't accidentally zap something somehow but that's me.

I would definitely appreciate a lock feature, certainly for zapping pets - I always have my pets arranged for ease of training (so my main battler is first), which means that my zapper is usually second or third on the list.... I can't keep track of the number of times I've almost clicked the wrong one when zapping.

Adding in a lock feature wouldn't be detrimental for anyone who chose to not use it, but it could prove really useful for those of us who have spent millions (and days / weeks of zapping) to get our pet(s) looking how we want them.

Sure, we can always double and triple check, but there's always those quirks of the mouse (mine tends to jump every now and then), and the browser (I'm sure we've all had moments where the seemingly fully loaded page suddenly loaded an item at the top that shifted everything down a line or two), so as long as it wasn't too challenging to code in (I can't imagine it would be!), I think this is a great idea :D

The thing is any item that has a use function automatically makes me think that its intended purpose is for it to not be a toy, and that it's meant to do something to something you own on site. I only have one battle pet so I may very well not be the intended user of such a function though. That said, I always make sure though, I've given wrong stats to a different pet during an oracle quest, that my active pet is actually the pet I want zapped, changed for a quest, etc.

true, but the default popup even for feeding (from the "feed to" link) is "are you sure you want to use this item on (pet name)" so it's not foolproof (at least not foolproof for me! :P)

I'm not completely opposed to it. I just may not be the intended user of such a function since admittedly I rarely use the zapper. I do think, in general, that a lot of issues like this could simply be solved with double checking first though.

I agree, especially if you've finally gotten a pet you've been saving up for, only to have a careless mistake take it all away.

I really like this option. It would be handy, not just with zapping and toys, but if you lock a pet and try to feed it food, there could be a little lock icon beside the pet name that means it can't be fed/or played with? I would like that. But that is just me. It could be used in many ways :)

I can see how this would be useful for those mis-clicks. I know that if I, for instance, made a pet Angelic and accidentally somehow zapped it and it changed colour/species I would be devastated!
