There's so many cool Luminaire items that are clearly Christmas-based, but Christmas isn't the only holiday this time of year! I get wanting to be secular but we already have the and so there are Jewish items. Some others would be cool— I'd especially love to see menorah items!

I support this! I could see some really pretty wearables coming from this suggestion. Beautifully-lit interiors. Tallit (though I believe those are worn during Yom Kippur? I'm not Jewish, admittedly, so I'm a little ignorant about what traditional clothing items may exist for Hanukkah).

Tallit isn't a holiday based thing, it's a prayer related thing (depending which Tallit you mean). :)

We likely aren't going to do something obviously jewish based, as we've done our best to move away from real world holidays. and I discussed bringing lights/candles into play for one of the lands traditions (we've got books planned for how all the areas celebrate Luminaire) for Luminaire as a nice nod to Hannukah, but that'll likely be it.

i get the 'moving away from real-world holidays' thing but luminaire is pretty obviously basically christmas (trees with lights and ornaments and stars, santa, etc) - an undeniably christian holiday, even though most people celebrate it secularly - so i love the idea of seeing other cultures reflected in the various celebrations of subeta lands.

To be fair, Christmas is a very major holiday while Hannukah isn't, so there are less elements we can grab (other than like fried sweets + candle aspects). There are things that overlap for both holidays, but people just assume it's more Christian (music, candles, etc).

This is what I was thinking. I'm not sure that tallit would be appropriate since they are so closely tied into prayer and religion, but it would be nice to have other visual allusions to non-Christian cultures, since we already have so many clearly undercover Christian ones.

The menorah just comes to mind because for me that's the most visually striking image we have of Jewish tradition this time of year, and even though it's not one of the biggest Jewish holidays, it does kind of fall under the "December-end-of-the-year holidays about light" umbrella. Maybe a couple of "Holiday Candelabra" items, where one has blue and white candles and one has red, green, and black candles to represent a menorah and a kinara for Kwanzaa? They could even have a different number or not be shaped like a traditional menorah and kinara to reinforce that this isn't Subeta pushing a non-Christian agenda or whatever. Maybe even a background that looks like a kitchen where someone's making latkes or something like that.

had a good point in that there are already many menorah and dreidel items, just not wearables, so these items do already exist on the site. But the HA is one of the biggest parts of the site for me, and I (and many others in the same boat) can't afford to commission CWs. Besides, seeing staff put out items like these would go a long way towards making me feel supported as a non-Christian on Subeta who's already inundated with Christmas imagery this time of year.

I hope this all makes sense and I def understand not wanting to show blatant religious symbols, but having some kind of holiday candelabra wearable would be an awesome way to make Luminaire less obviously Christmassy— and then I'd definitely be more enthusiastic about participating in the Luminaire HA-making trend :P

I'd love to see some more Hanukkah-esque items (or more generic "winter holiday" stuff that works for everybody). So much of the Luminaire stuff is very Christmas-y (stockings, trees, reindeer, Santa, etc.) and it just seems a little...unfair. Everyone should be able to celebrate site holidays, not just people who celebrate its real-world analogue.

Maybe next year (because it's sorta late in the game now) they can do a line of wearables based off of the region's celebrations ? The books are laying things down this year, so it'd be a nice way to bring in more stuff later on ?

Being nitpicky but in all technically and historically, Christmas is actually a pagan holiday that the Christians took over. Gift giving, lighting trees, using evergreens, almost everything is pagan :P

WHO KNOWS WHAT WE'LL DO GOSH

But seriously, we're not going to do very obvious hannukah themed items. We're laying the ground work for how the areas celebrate Luminaire and will likely do more things with them this year or next (we still have many nights left for Melody). Like I said, hannukah and christmas have a lot of overlapping themes (like spending time with family, food, singing, etc), and with hannukah being a minor holiday, there isn't a whole lot for us to work with outside of items we already have. We have a lot of dreidels, menorahs, etc. We don't particularly need more of the same when we could be coming up with cute new things based off the traditions.

But you had mentioned the lights maybe being a regional thing here on Subeta too, and seeing a candelabra, maybe similar to a menorah, displayed in a background could demonstrate that. Or Subeta's version of what they could do (maybe they have floating candles, or they make a tree shape) "Traditional [insert land] Greeting Card" and have it be a BG displaying someones living room. The pieces could be traditional and non-traditional, like Delphi could have an Ugly Tank Top, and we could have a mini Veta tree all decorated (or since we have , we could have a Popoko running off with some decorations). Once all of the books are out I could add to this list. BUT BASICALLY, I meant something having to do with the lights/candles because you mentioned it, and putting a Subeta Twist™ to it would be fun.

I'd like to see something like this, but not direct copies of real-world holidays, since that's something Subeta doesn't do any more.

The current Hanukkah items could do with revamping to tie in with the site's lore, and move away from the real-world holiday. They might fit well in Saherimos? Take the dreidels, for example. Alter the basic shape a bit, add Saheric script, and give them a new name and descriptions tying them in with Saheric traditions. Fit them in Subeta lore with a nod to the real dreidel.

I'd love to see more about winter traditions in other parts of Subeta. I'm sure you could give a nod to real-world celebrations this way.

All very lovely ideas and suggestions. I'm all for weaving in some of the real world traditions or holidays in to Subeta.
