I noticed the original topic was locked, so I decided to make a new one!

I finished Toby's Room by Pat Barker last night. I really like her writing style, I think I'll have to read the other two books in the Life Class trilogy as well.

Uh...the Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix.

Started reading them in grade school, but I graduated high school before he wrote the final one. Forgot about them for years and realized recently I never found out how it ends. Only took me like two weeks to read all seven cause they're technically for kids lol but at least now I know what happens.

Looking to buy this!

Just finished In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware.

It was ok, not terrible, but nothing special. Tbh I'm getting tired of the damaged wangsty MCs in these types of stories. (I just wish they weren't so full of themselves and their self-pity.) But then the suspense won't work without their unreliability, I guess.

Just finished The Wise Man's fear by Patrick Rothfuss. Dunno how I feel about this series in general but at least it's a ride alright.

I really want to read Frankenstein and you've reminded me of the fact! That should be next for me! I also want to read Dracula ... two real classics that seem to evade me!

I just finished a terrible French book called The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I hate reading a book I don't enjoy - but I always feel like I've got to read to the end anyway! Before that was The Catcher in the Rye which I LOVED. I just started Lolita now, which has been on my list for a long time!

I am reading Guns, Germs and Steel, which theorizes why some countries have advanced civilizations and some do not. Very interesting book.

Robin Hobb's The Assassin's Fate, the finale of the series. And I cried buckets, saying goodbye to such a long-running and beautiful series is rough, to say the least.

Can I rec you things because LGBT fantasy is my lifeblood :o

SPOILER (click to toggle)

  • Robin Hobb's the Realm of the Elderlings (one nonbinary protagonist + the main characters have stuff going on but it's a long ass series)
  • Robin Hobb's Rain Wild Chronicles (several lgbt characters)
  • Ellen Kushner's Riverside Chronicles (no one is straight, wlw and mlm characters)
  • Tanya Huff's The Fire's Stone (bi protags if I remember right)
  • Lynn Flewellyn's Nightrunner series (mlm protagonists)
  • Malinda Lo's Huntress & Ash (wlw protags)
  • Rachel Hartman's Seraphina series (been a while since I read this but there was lots of talk about genders)
  • Sam Farren's Dragonoak series (wlw protagonists )
  • Madeline Miller's The Song of Achilles (mlm)
  • Mercedes Lackey's The Last Herald series (mlm)

for starters B)

Thanks! I heard about the Mercedes Lackey series but I also heard it was super sad ending and honestly I can't deal with sad endings in books so I avoided it, I did read about it though like basically what it's about (and I LOVE her songs) xD

She's.. readable, but there's a reason why she isn't on the top of my list x) But yep, not the happiest of endings there ugh. My friend's got a gr10 list here if you want more suggestions!

But ooh I .. haven't actually listened to her songs, I.. might have to remedy that!
