What are your favorite guitar riffs and/or intros? c: I wanna listen to some nice melodies and figured to ask everyone and be social instead of just googling top guitar riffs haha. xD
(brownie points for linking, yo)
all 3 of these are found at the beginning and basically I could cut out the lyrics and the rest of the song and listen to just them on a loop forever haha
money for nothing by dire straits - it's pretty famous but idc, this tune is sick ❤️ down to the waterline by dire straits - I love the build of this one jigsaw feeling by siouxsie and the banshees - this one is great to listen to when angry at something haha B)
Brighton Rock by Queen has a seriously killer guitar solo. It starts at about 1:45, lasts for over a minute. It's pretty great.

oooh, that sounds rocking, thanks for sharing :)
You're welcome.
Reelin' In the Years by Steely Dan has one of my favorite guitar solos of all time. It's Jimmy Page's personal favorite guitar solo of all time. It's simpler than Brighton Rock, but very effective. I love it to death.
Cortez the Killer by Neil Young. It's a slower song, but I think it's the best guitar work Neil has ever done. Totally underrated. Absolutely fantastic.
Edit: Remembered another one! Black Star by Yngwie Malmsteen. Instrumental, and totally rockin'. The whole album, Rising Star, is fantastic. Everyone should check it out.

this is a tough one!! i'll need some time to think! speaking of dire straits i do like sultans of swing (cliche haha)
I haven't really thought about guitar solos for ages! I used to hunt them down all the time while I was learning to play, but since I mostly stopped playing I also stopped really paying special attention to guitar solos. Here's a few I remember off the top of my head though!
I really love the solo in Killer Queen by Queen (starts 1:25, but I think you need to hear the whole song to get the mood going!) for similar reasons - it's so simple but it just fits the feeling of the song so well.
Also by Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody (starts 2:35) is another short one but it's so great, and I'm sentimental about it too - there's more little riffs and solos throughout, particularly towards the end. Brian May just plays amazing sounding solos all the freakin' time, and his guitar has such a distinct sound which I'm so in love with.
Less of a traditional one here, but I also really like the guitar solos in Dead! by My Chemical Romance (One starts immediately, another at 2:04). They're both very short and nothing fancy is going on, but they really fit the fast paced upbeat-yet-aggressive mood of the song.
I always like to play the intro of girls all the bad guys want by Bowling for Soup, because it's an easy peasy intro (I remember it!) but it sounds good and people think you're really good. xD
The intro to Hotel California is always great; the last couple minutes are amazing, too. Even better live.
...
All of the guitar in "Welcome Home" by Coheed and Cambria, but especially the guitar solo in the middle. In this video it starts at 3:56 and ends at 5:00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJJ27NxYamY
apologies in advance if you've heard any of these!
bass guitar:
maxwell murder - rancid (not particularly complicated but really fun/upbeat) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE1zgrMdxBE the whale song - modest mouse (there's something kinda dirty and dark about this whole song, and the pace makes it extra satisfying somehow) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52vvXBbua_c waiting room - fugazi (really simple but still enjoyable) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMOAXm94VWo lacquer head/shake hands with beef/tommy the cat/jerry was a race car driver - primus (honestly anything by primus) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IwIZbcslUA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDLCAeFoC0U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4OhIU-PmB8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26iWBB_PBJA
guitar:
don't think twice it's alright - bob dylan (you've probably heard this one, but the guitar is just so... light? something about it just hits me perfectly so i figured i'd mention it) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Y3KfJs6T0 voodoo child - hendrix (you've probably also heard this but i gotta add it anyway, cause a thread about guitar riffs wouldn't be complete without hendrix tbh) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZBlqcbpmxY
