Can we do it?

  1. It can show a more accurate and global opinion on a suggestion.
  2. Not everyone likes to post on the forum, so they could just click a button and show their opinion anonymously..

It also could be nice to have a "final vote" by the staff, it would save time and debate on a suggestion, we will know an answer instead of being in the dark.

It can be like:

  1. great idea, working on it.
  2. great idea, not a priority, will work on it in the future.
  3. a little chance, we need to discuss about it.
  4. no chance at all.

What do you think?

I get the concept, which is if a whole bunch of people upvote a suggestion it might be more likely to be implemented, but think the potential for abuse exists with anonymous upvoting/downvoting. Not sure I want to see the suggestions forum turn into Reddit.

I like that people must currently post why they like or do not like it, which can lead to some really awesome refinements of the idea or even better ideas that do get implemented. In short, I think the discussion is important.

Also, given that we can currently "heart" a post, I think we've kind of got that covered, in a way, for those who like the idea but wish to remain anonymous.

I really would love a little "staff has seen this and is working on it!" toggle, etc. That would be really cool.

I think this Suggestion is a poor idea. Subeta is a personal boutique operation, not some soulless international vendor of fizzy sugar water.

I think these ideas can lead to false hope honestly. Just because something gets a lot of support doesn't mean it is likely to happen. It also isn't going to accurately represent subeta as a whole because there are a good portion of users who don't use any forums or look at s&i. The ones who do but don't ever post don't make up a majority of those users. Plus we already have the post like button. Having a staff flag isn't much different from staff posting on the thread itself and sometimes staff likes to use ideas much further down the road - the 2048 suggestion for example - and a flag saying they're doing that would kinda spoil the surprise and lead to impatience from users thinking staff said they were going to do something, why isn't it done already.

I actually really like this idea. Obviously, it wouldn't be the be all end all in a suggestion being implemented, but it does give users who don't like posting a chance to sort of have their voice heard. Which I am all for.

My issue is while it covers lurkers and non-posters, it doesn't cover people who don't even visit the forums or just don't bother with the suggestions forum in particular. D: I know for important things staff collected site wide feedback and those were awesome as it allowed everyone to be equally heard (obviously not possible for individual suggestions though so I have no alternative to your suggestion, I'm afraid D: ).

I don't especially like the idea. In my perspective the suggestions and ideas forum should be more of a discussion than a support/no support voting venue.

The first suggestion is never perfect, it always needs more input and figuring out, so voting doesn't sound like an improvement over commenting in the thread.

In addition, even the best suggestions, ones that get support from staff, have no guaranteed timeline for implementation. A large number of positive votes doesn't guarantee anything, and might not actually reflect/account for the viability or quality of the suggestion—just that someone out there likes the idea.

We had a very similar system years and years ago, before the suggestions forum was implemented. It wasn't really working out well. :/

Oh is right, I forgot all about that! I definitely prefer having to post. It means you're really invested. I get the attraction of a yes/no anon vote system to try to generate more enthusiasm, but it doesn't help refine an idea or indicate how important it is.
