What with the forum revamp having been and gone and the forums being, as far as I can tell, pretty stable... Will we ever get the forum search option back? I remember we had one way back when, but I can't remember it working for years, and when the forums got revamped it just kind of vanished. Since then, I haven't seen anything about whether it's coming back or not.

If it's been addressed somewhere here on the forums before, I can't find it - Funnily enough, this is in large part because we don't have a forum search for me to look with.

Seeing as a basic search function is standard on literally every other forum I can remember ever using, with many of them offering advanced options (E.G Searching within specific subforums, toggles between keywords and exact sentences, ect...) Subeta doesn't really have an excuse not to include one. Especially when so many items and services are sold through forum threads these days.

The CW market is probably my biggest peeve factor, here. Often times I'll find a really neat looking CW while playing around in the wardrobe, only for it to not be available on any shops, trades or galleries. Meaning my only real recourse is to go to the forums. Problem there being that most seller threads don't list what they're selling in the title, so I'd have to individually sift through each and every thread to actually find what I'm looking for - if it's even there to begin with.

And yes, I'm well aware you can search for site terms through google, but usually all this results in is old, closed threads or links to other sites like Subetalodge.

I think it's high time we got forum search back. And I really hope I'm not alone here.

As for the forum search. The original forum search was taken down because the constant queries that were generated from it ended up being a pretty heavy load for the servers if I remember correctly. If that still remains an issue I doubt the forum search will be coming back. If, there is a way to have it come back without it putting a strain on servers due to constant queries being generated from it then yeah I wouldn't mind having it back on site. It was a pretty useful feature.

I'd second that, it was such a usefull tool to have and I do miss is badly sometimes. Especially when you have spercific questions and stuff and don't want the hassle of making a new board everytime.

I would love to see the return of the forum search! It was a very useful feature, particularly with ensuring questions were not reposted. I'm not sure if the previous forum search could find item names if posted with the item scode, but that could help with the advertising forum. Though, I remember it was fairly slow before, so I imagine the toll on the servers must be large. Perhaps allowing use in specific forums (i.e. Adverising, Help & Questions, Suggestions & Ideas, and Announcements) would alleviate some of the burden? And, if reinstituted, perhaps an checkbox/option to only show forums created within the non-necroing period (3 months, is it?) could lessen the load and lessen the amount of necro'd boards. Or even an option to have only boards from within x amount of months, and have an auto lock occur when a board falls into necro territory.

On a separate somewhat-related note, I miss the forum pulse. :-;

The search being such a load on the servers seems odd, to me. I mean, we have several other search functions already, and as I mentioned in my OP, literally every other forum service I've ever used or even browsed through has had a search function.

Even one old forum (the old APB: Reloaded forums) that didn't allow you to edit posts still let you search. At this point, it feels less like a way to save space and more like an oversight.

I'm not a programmer so I really only know what I was told as to why it was originally taken down. It may of been the combination of the fact that forum pulse and forum search were originally combined into one feature in the original forums that may of been an issue.

In the end it's really up to the site programmers as to whether they'd want it back up or not.

went ahead and locked a different forum search suggestion (there are probably others) since it didn't get as many replies as this one already has before I got around to checking on it.

going to post what I always say - a forum search would be nice but in the mean time, google does a really good job.

It feels weird having to use external sites like google to search something on subeta. :c I agree, it would be nice to get the search back. (also the forum pulse!)

There isn't anything wrong with this Suggestion. Google already works well on Subeta even the forums, so it's not super necessary?

If you wanted to know about CWs, you could start a thread in HA Forum because folks there are pretty smart about wears, or limit your Google search to the new CW thread FWIW.

In my view, with the forums now revamped and the site having undergone countless coding overhauls, we should really have it back by now.

Just because google can be used doesn't mean we should have to rely on it. Technically, I could search google for youtube videos or social media posts, just because I can doesn't mean I should.
