A recent thing I've come to realize in my life is that I play a lot of games, but next to none of them involve a console or computer at all! I've been hooked on tabletop RPG since week one of college, and at this point I've played DnD, Pathfinder, Fate, Exalted, Mage: The Awakening, Changeling: The Lost, Anima, and some homebrew. I'm a tad on the addicted side.
Anyone else here have a fondness for ttrpg? I'd love to hear and share some stories from the table, or trade system recommendations.
I have played for several years now with the same group. Started with 4e in very long campaign that played out until level 30. It was alright, but I am not very fond of any edition of DnD these days to be honest. As I have branched out to new systems after we finished that campaign I have found I'm not a crunch person. I prefer strongly rules light narrative systems with a dash of simulationist elements.
Star Wars Saga Edition and Powered by the Apocalypse games are my favs. I would highly recommend Apocalypse World, Dungeon World, Legend of the Elements, Urban Shadows, and Monster Hearts. The last one is probably not for everyone though...and I totally get that it will not be something everyone will feel comfortable playing. But the one session I played at a con was one of the best things I ever played next to Apocalypse World. Tensions was always high and the story moved so fast. For a silly game, No Country for Old Kobolds is a lot of fun.
I had the chance to play Burning Wheel a few months back too! I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. The wound system and a few other mechanics are more crunch than I personally like but if you have not played I would recommend seeing if any experienced GM's would run it for you.
I recently got into TTRPG despite wanting to play and dabbling in play. I've been playing Pathfinder for the last year and a half, but I first started off playing World Of Darkness: Vampire The Masquerade. I've played a bit of DnD using Gurps, and grew up playing video game representations of Neverwinter in 2e, and it's been interesting.
I also want to ask if anyone wants to play Pathfinder or such with me?
I just started a D&D campaign and it's my first time being a DM. I'm having fun, but it's harder than my friends made it out to be.
Edit: we're playing 3.5. I dislike 4, 5, and Pathfinder.
