I made the bright decision of spending a couple hours to make one of my fanpets an overlay, because I really love their design and I wanted to see how well I could translate it to the color+species I'm going to make them..

It's been 3 and a half hours, and I'm still not done yet. That's a new record. I'm still cleaning up the colors + outline and making edges a bit more crisp. I might tweak the circuitry on the shoulder there, too, and I'm still kind of playing around with the idea of putting more decoration on the head/face to fit the inspiration going on.. and maybe I'll darken the crystals on the head to fit the other ones.. and..

Let's all post Hell Overlays and talk about how much effort we've put into them, and how proud we are of them. I wanna see what you've made, even if it's painful, because talking about overlays and Art Struggles is fun.

Don't even let me start talking about my overlays I've been working on them fOR AGES until they got stuck in WIP hell and will never come back finished Offerings by the time I finally finished coloring I started to hate the wings. Executed I gave up even on lineart. Ignore the 3, that's the size of brush I was using so I won't forgot lmao

I don't think I'll ever finish them, I don't even have the csc to upload them anymore ;;

Aah, yeah, I know the feeling of losing motivation / disliking something to the point that it makes me give up. I've had a lot of stuff just disappear into the void because of that.

Those are really nice, though, and I like those wings! I'm always jealous of people who can make fully-custom overlays that fit into the Subeta "style". :')

I think you're doing good so far! I admire anyone who can edit subeta's offical art. I can't do that myself, it clashes too much with how I work on things. Also, anything with intricacy (circuit omg) can be a pain to work on. Making sure certain details are still visible once shrunken is really tedious, but looks like you have a handle on that.

I was working on an overlay for my pet Shatter, I've been at it for a couple of weeks now because I kept noticing things that bothered me. Right now I'm moderately happy with her after fixing the forepaw especially. Crazy bird has too many markings that I forget about! After I taper the lines in a few places I'll finally shade. Which is my least favorite part of everything.

I did some overlays for my pets (some digital some with traditional medias) but most work I did put into Carus' overlay. The scorpion was a lot of work, especially I never made an scorp bevor ^^ I am also not to familiar with digital coloring, so it takes ma longer anyway ^^

I remember that it took me hours to change Poseidon's colors until I was happy with the outcome. ^^;

P.S.: When I look at all the awesome art in this thread I get a little sad in regards to my own lack of artistic talent. It's not that I never tried (for years even) but at some point I just gave up and accepted that my hands and eyes aren't made to work well together. Even stick figures I draw look like crazy creatures from a freak show.

oh god, all i did for overlay is add transparency. I need to get the right wares and up my game!
