ok so i'm absolutely sure that deleting pets is not and will never be an option, mostly because of pet ID's. it just seems like a shame when there is a pet stuck floating around the site with a terrible name with lots of numbers nobody would ever want. what i'm wondering is if this has any effect on anything on the site? like a huge clutter of unused codes or whatever? honestly i have no idea how that stuff works, but i thought it'd be worth asking around. i'm mostly likely way off base.
i feel like we should do something though, but i'm also sure that we won't be able to get a bunch of people willing to spend 500CSC on adopting/taking these names from unused accounts and making them a more desirable name and throwing em back out there into the pound. but if there were some sort of event or prizes available it could be useful in terms of getting our daily support back up to 100% for a little while.
this is silly and i don't really know how to articulate any good ideas about this or if it even matters, but it's been on my mind, especially while going through the adoption center, that some pets will probably never be adopted or used again.
edit: i'm goofing and forgetting a lot of things, my brain is all messed up right now, this can be closed
So you want us to take pets from inactive accounts, change their name and chuck them back into the pound so that someone else can adopt them.
See, when the new clearing method was adopted, it's to keep accounts as they were, so that the users who have been MIA for years can come back, and get back their pets. What's the point if half of their pets had their name changed and were adopted by someone else?
That's kinda rude.
Not sure if you already know about this, but once an account is inactive for one year, the names are officially 'up for grabs' for anyone to use. The original pet (on the inactive account) then has the name changed to include an underscore and three numbers. (For example, if Lorna was on an inactive account, and someone else used the name, the original pet would change name to Lorna_123) Then if the inactive user returns at any point, they get a free rename for any pets that have had their names taken while they were inactive.

To take pets from inactive accounts is not an option and will never be, because users are coming back, even if it doesn't look like but there are.. every once in a while I get to talk with users that has been gone for a lot of years and now they are back..
About bad names pets in the pound - I think a nice solution for this would be that at every holiday or season the team will paint them at a certain color, like Nightmare or Bloodred for Morostide and I'm pretty sure that all of them will be adopted immediately and the chances that those users will buy CSC to change the pets' names is also very high.. so it's a win-win situation..
I'd think if it negatively affected the site, they would have kept it so inactive accounts were just deleted instead of making it so the names can be taken but the accounts are left as is. I definitely don't support pulling pets from inactive accounts.
At first I thought this thread was gonna be about the pets that got dumped in the pound recently and I was like "Really? I thought there were like 10 left in there"
oh sorry if i didnt say it properly, i meant like, creating our pet to a bad name on an inactive account, not taking the pet from them. or adopting a pet that has been sitting in the pound and renaming them. but then i forgot the pet is still there if we take the name lol. i think i'm just really tired and not putting the pieces together properly
but yeah, i see what everyone is saying, i think i was mostly wondering if it affected the site.
that seems like a good solution.
A lot of those pets get free name changes, because like explained, the names go up for grabs when the account turns inactive. There's really no point in renaming them to a "good" name since those would also be up for grabs if the user didn't come back.
And how do you determine when the name is up for taking? Because I'm pretty sure currently, if someone took the name Jane and you really wanted Jane_238 that you could just turn around and take Jane_238 immediately if the account were still inactive. If you could do that with the "good" names too then what's the point? And what will the owner think when they come back and Jane has been renamed into something completely different because of being name changed so many times?
But to answer the question, no I don't think it negatively affects the site or they wouldn't have changed it (or would have changed it back by now)
[edit] I'm not against changing the pounded pets' colors but the kind of people most willing to pay for a name change would probably not adopt a pet on color alone, unless that color was Angelic, because it's about the only pet color that costs more than a name change.
But also a lot of the badly named pets that were stuck in the pound recently had good IDs and most were adopted for that alone, without having to be recolored. So I don't really find it necessary to color them
no i didnt mean actually renaming them on the inactive account, i originally meant to create a pet for our own -with- the bad name that is on an inactive account but my logic was flawed bc the pet will still be there with _123 or whatever haha talk about clutter? this thread is a result of my brain goofing im sorry D:
