Hey guys!

I hope this is the right forum for this. D: Basically, I used to do a lot of overlays and other miscellaneous fun things in photoshop back in the day. Well, I've returned from hiatus and I'm looking to take commissions again, but I've run into a minor hurtle...

I'm now using a retina display macbook pro, and the sizing for images in Photoshop is just plain WHACK. When I look at a 300px x 300px image at 100% (actual size), it displays as MUCH smaller than what my old computers use to show. However, if I were to save that 300 x 300 image and upload it for posting on the forums, it now appears at the "regular" 300 x 300 size (ie, larger than what Photoshop showed me as being full size), and it even LOOKS a little fuzzy and zoomed in. :s
I realize that retina display is meant to optimize my viewing experience, but I'm finding it impossible to make graphics for web viewing since everything I upload comes out larger and fuzzier than expected. Is there any way I can get around this so that I can enjoy doing some overlay commissions? D':

Perhaps you guys can help me out by telling me what you see? This pronghorn quickie was done by me in Photoshop using my new retina display computer. To me, they look fuzzy, and the way they appear on the boards is actually larger than what they appeared as in Photoshop (CC).

By comparison, here is an old commission I did years back. To me, this looks MUCH crisper. Does it look crisper to you? If yes, WHY, and how can I achieve that crispiness given that photoshop is trying to make all my images wiggedy whack? D:

I hope this question makes sense, and I hope someone else has experienced this and found a work around. x___x MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE. <3

EDIT.
I'm gonna test some things out with my PS settings in the spoiler below

resolution testing
made using low res PS and two types of brushes (one exceptionally sharp)

made using retina display PS, same two brushes

Test at 72 dpi

test at double desired size, 72 dpi (still fuzzy :( )

Uuurgh. I don't know what to do, EVERYTHING looks like terrible resolution from my screen, except for the images I made before I switched to a retina display mac.

That's the problem with double density displays, everything not made at twice the resolution will look fuzzy on your computer, or smaller than it should. The image of the pronghorn doesn't look fuzzy on my normal resolution screen.

Since the retina display has approx. twice the amount of pixels in the same space, an image of so many pixels will display half the size it would on a regular density screen. Also, everything probably looks fuzzy to you just in comparison because you essentially have to scale up your images to get them to display at the same actual size.

I think just remember that the fuzziness is really just a comparison issue. Like seeing a hi-def TV then going back to your normal low-def and suddenly realizing how fuzzy it is. Looks normal to all us non fancy screen having people.
