I know you guys did a Database maintenance clean up. Did it work?

Well anyway I have an idea about the problem and errors and lag we are all getting. It all started when the events were happening. I made a ticket when the site was 100% unusable. They put up another server. Well that fixed everything. I think because Subeta is growing in users that the server can't handle it. How about putting up another server so it's not all on one server and keeping it up?

I have the vague taste of deja vu. If I remember, denied the link between the servers and the downtimes. Plus, who's gonna pay for the new servers x) ?

Petition for more servers ~ SIGN UP! ^ It was here if I remember correctly.

they already have them since they put another up not long ago. we have the daily support goal. I think people will be willing to pay a little bit more a day if the site starts to work better

The site is not making enough daily. "People willing to pay more"? It's a free to play website. No one is entitled to spend actual $$$ here to enjoy the site. Take the time to read 's post about the servers and Subeta being old. A few years ago, we might have been able to afford a recode but we can't now :c

It's a wonderful thought, but I think it's easier said than done. Plus I believe staff once said the errors don't have to do with the servers, but something internally with the site or coding? Don't quote me on that though.

yes it is old. But if the site doesn't run well the money will not come because people are getting upset. It's something to try. then why did it start working when they put up another server?

Like I said, I don't know for sure. But I do know that "oh just spin up more servers" isn't the answer to fixing Subeta's stability issues.

if the site issues started when the event was going on, shouldn't the issues be gone now? I'm thinking the timing of the errors was coincidental and only exacerbated by the event, but alas I'm only taking a shot in the dark on this.

If there is a money issue why not do things to earn money to get servers? Example are things like the gold account? Things that people with ACTUALLY pay for. Another idea is a subeta shop where we can buy clothing, and stuffed animals of subeta animals.

Hi! Number of servers aren&;t the problem. Adding more servers isn&;t a solution (it actually doesn&;t help at all, and sometimes hurts) and it basically comes down to a few things.</p>
<ol>
<li>
<p>Subeta is old. You know this, I&;ve said it a bunch of times. I&;m working really hard on modernizing pieces of it at a time. The most recent push here has been the new wardrobe items page which is using a new API built for the wardrobe (that will be implemented on the wardrobe) that is SIGNIFICANTLY faster, and uses way less resources on every query. It&;s smart, and built on top of laravel who just knows a lot more about architecture than I do. I know it doesn&;t feel like it, but rewriting the user shops has helped this A LOT.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Less relying on things that we don&;t need, and trying to limit the number of technologies that we use. Today my big code pushes were to move the friend feed and item price data back to MySQL (our database) from MongoDB, a secondary database that we&;ve been using. Mongo is faster, and better at running number queries on data, but it also adds a whole extra database to our stack that has to be maintained, updated, and kept running. Our problems over the past two weeks? All from Mongo issues, which we haven&;t been able to entirely pinpoint (even with professional outside help). So, the solution is to move back to what we know, and what we&;ve been running for years, and what the rest of Subeta runs on (and we&;ve got a system for backups, etc). The V3 wardrobe uses some Mongo stuff for the backend, but we&;re moving that away with the new APIs as well (which are much faster without Mongo)</p>
</li>
</ol>
<p>Basically: It&;s a process. My goal is to be as transparent about this as possible, while still not saying things are &quot;fixed&quot; until they&;re fixed. The status site has been a big help there because we can just mark things as in progress or investigating, and keep the chain going down until we&;ve resolved the problem (and then another one comes up).

very relevant quote found on the tread linked above.

Stuffed animals need to be designed ($), produced ($) and shipped($). Subeta is not saving money and not nearly making enough money to do these things. If I remember, the lil charms ended up being more expensive than anything else.

I would love to be able to get a kumos plushie one day, but yeah they just aren't profitable. The best way to have the site earn money is to buy CSC. Maybe one day in the future they'll have one or two plushies or some sort of physical merch to buy for a short period of time (please kumos plushies) but that's only if people keep buying CSC, it isn't going to be a long term solution that will generate enough income to afford new servers - new servers that may not necessarily fix the problems we're having anyway.

This seems to be a decently common suggestion, but there's one minor flaw. If having more servers would help, and it were possible to add more servers immediately, why would we not already have them?
