i've tried going in to my wardrobe and clicking on each layer individually, but no matter if i take out items or add new items, the numbers on my achievements don't change.

I just tried it with mine and it worked. Could it be that you don't have as many items in those layers as you used to? The achievements will list the largest amount that you've ever had in your wardrobe. So if the achievement says you have 100 items in your head layer and you actually do, then you take out 20, it will still say 100 on the achievement.

It won't update again until you have at least 101 items in that layer and refresh the achievement again.
