I realize this wouldn't be a real necessary feature, but I do think it'd be pretty convenient/handy. In particular for: a.) new users, who may have not discovered the beauty of SubetaLodge or have not heard of the Item Directory b.) new item releases c.) multi-use items d.) items without uses or misleading uses (did you know toilet paper and sponges can be toys?!)
Here's a quick edit with a random item in case my idea is unclear:
Hopefully shouldn't add more than two lines.
Sweet Treasures pet=Zagnut pet=Savour [Pet=Chivato] (Ikumoradeekanox)
This would be really nice if it was simple to do, I support it.
I feel like this would be a really really tough thing to implement, but it would be useful if it wasn't too tough to add.
It doesn't feel like a needed addition to me. Isn't discovery part of the fun when you join a new site? I feel that people increasingly want everything handed to them instead of themselves working it out on their own. What is gonna be the next suggestion - a virtual "safe room" that we can retreat to when something on Subeta doesn't go our way?
I do not like this idea.
Hovers are tricksy enough already and can really slow some pages down. They need less information on them (f'rinstance Official Price, not too relevant)
good idea. items can be confusing like something that look like books or scrolls but unreadable. or items with multiple use like edible minions. it can really improve the game experience. when you are very new, item discovery can be fun (not for me), but after a while, who gives a shit. all i care is getting accurate info fast so i can move on to the next thing.
i don't think this would be that difficult to implement. all items are already 'tagged' with their use/type/category, so it would just be a matter of making those tags display in the hover info... i think? and i doubt that would make hovers load any slower. anyway this would probably be helpful as it is a bit annoying to have to go to subetalodge every time i want to be sure of what an item is. sometimes things look like they could belong to certain categories, but they don't, or vice versa.
I'm mostly ambivalent on this one, but I think I would have to kind of agree with 's line of thought. I think part of the fun is not knowing what a new item does yet and working with/daring other members to test it out first! Is it going to turn your pet into a lump? or just feed it?
Also, as mentioned, there is the Item Directory Building and SubetaLodge which can give you this info, so it doesn't seem to be a high priority.
I'm not really against the idea, and I am sure if it was implemented, I would find it useful, I just think maybe that a programmer's time may be better spent elsewhere.
I've thought about this before, but I'm not sure if it's necessary. If they could implement it, I guess it would be nice. But as long as the Item Directory has the proper item uses listed, you can always look up your items there if you're not sure.
On that note, I think the Item Directory is one area of the site that could use an update, but that's another matter.
Nah. Adds info to a cluttered box, and isn't very useful.
Not really strongly against it, but I mean do people really look at item hovers that much? Price info isn't all that reliable. :l Even if it was there, how many people would seriously use it? For a lot of things, it's already self-explanatory... beanbag is a beanbag. Food is food unless it's also a wearable in which case you are shown the preview on hover anyway. How many things are so ambiguous that would warrant each item getting this? Seems unnecessary to me.
Wouldn't mind this. Price Today and Overall Price are basically useless and often out of sync with actual shop search prices. Official price is only really useful for items with a static price (MC, CSC, token shop, quest shop items, etc.)
I'd prefer seeing an item use without having to double-check Subetalodge or the item directory. It would make it a bit easier to spot and avoid species-changing items, for example. Or for spotting stat boosters and double-use items (food + wearable, comes to mind) if you have a gourmand pet.
Don't get me wrong, exploring and discovering things for yourself is all fine and dandy. Until you spend a chunk of sP on an item you thought was a collectable or a minion, but it turns out to be yet another wearable.
@ usagi You'd be surprised how many things have multiple uses on Subeta!
They look like minions, right? Except they're not - they're wearables. These are edible and wearable.
There's buckets more examples where these came from, and a whole thread about items that should have multiple uses.
but that's the thing - if it's edible and a wearable it will have the preview on hover for the wardrobe ;l
and minions cannot be wearables so if something like that has a preview it cannot be a minion - so that's just goes along with learning site mechanics and would better be suited to a newbie faq when new users start out imo
lbr, the item uses are kind of a clusterfuck, that wouldn't change even if they were included in a newbie guide. I've been here for ages and I don't have the drive to learn the criteria about item uses. :'D This would simply be more convenient.
[sub]Yes, I am salty because those two minion-looking items are wearables and that they can't be minions unless staff pull some revamp/item change wizardry. Can you tell?[/sub]
But that aside, can anyone give me the pros of having the Price Today and Overall Price information vs. the item use information on a hover?
That junk is still displayed and I don't know that anyone even uses it. Official Price is useful! The other two are... why are they here, exactly? Didn't we have a graph in the item directory that showed price changes over a period of time?
don't see what's so difficult about reading and understanding 'a minion cannot be a wearable' or 'an easy way to check if it's a wearable is to look on the item hover for a wardrobe preview' ?? and sure they change things like in the past books could be wearables too but like mention the latter sentence and you've got literally all wearables covered
but I also get your point we'll just have to agree to disagree
Sheer laziness on my part. :'D That, and I see this as a scenario where one useless feature (prices) is removed with a slightly more useful feature (item uses).
I do see your point, don't get me wrong, but I also enjoy a good discussion. I have nothing against you, I'm sorry if I came across as a bit pushy or abrasive!
