Hey guys! I work in a the kids department of a large bookstore. I get the privilege of gobbling up advanced reader copies; I've read 27 books in 2016 so far, all new releases. I don't get to read a lot of adult literature, due to the nature of my job... but that's fine by me, because I LOVE kids' and YA lit!

What have been some of your favorite new publications this year? Any genre/age group! :D I'd love to hear some. Who knows, I may even recognize a few titles, haha!

I think it was released last year, but I read it this year - Uprooted by Naomi Novik. I love it so much, I am so sad I'll never get to read it for the first time again! But rereads are good as well. :D

I'm working on reading The New Jim Crow for the second time currently--heavy but so very important. I am also enjoying How The Other Half Banks.

My most recent read before this was HP&Cursed Child and before that Delirium by Lauren Oliver. I really liked Feed by Mira Grant earlier this year. And early in the year, I read Harry, A History by Melissa Anelli, which was fascinating!

I'm actually taking some science fiction courses at uni right now! I'd recommend any short stories that are SF, I have an anthology and even though some stories aren't for me...there are some really amazing ones in there. Other texts I've read: Dune by Frank Herbert (would recommend. A little hard to follow and intimidating but very enjoyable!) Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan (Kinda like porn and sci fi? It's got some commentaries on human bodies and what they mean to the Altered Carbon universe) Neuromancer by William Gibbson (cyberpunk, inspiration from Blade Runner. I'd just watch Blade Runner and skip this book. Blade Runner was a novel, but I can't remember the name and too lazy to google)

I really enjoyed the new Connie Willis book - "Cross Talk" - it was a lot of fun!

- which anthology are y'all reading? I'd love to have taken a science fiction course at uni! You're so lucky!

- agreed on The New Jim Crow. SO eye-opening. I did some research myself to make myself believe some of her numbers because they're just so out of control. Every. Single. Thing. Checked out. Very important stuff.

- LOVED Uprooted!

Well, one was an English class. the other was Philosophy. Turns out, I'm absolute garbage at philosophy.

The anthology is....The Wesleyan Anthology of Science Fiction! I'm sure you could find the stories individually online for much cheaper than buying the book. Actually, according to Canadian Amazon, $40 dollars isn't that bad for it. It's got such an amazing range!

- Oh wow, that anthology has some serious big names in it! And I haven't read most of those stories! Which were your favorites?

(I'm garbage at philosophy too. LOL!)

The Wesleyan Anthology doesn't mess around wiggle eyebrows. Umm. I'd have to say Ryman's "Everywhere", Silverberg's "Passengers", Moore's “Shambleau”, Lafferty's “Slow Tuesday Night”, Merril's “That Only a Mother” and Eileen Gunn's “Computer Friendly”.
Just to start you off xD They're more of the "spooky tales" sometimes. And these are only ones I had to read for class. I haven't been able to explore outside of it.

Yeah! Big names, but the littler names are also awesome :3
