So! especially with the lovely Zero III pet winning a spotlight a few weeks back, I was wondering how many Zero Escape fans might be lurking around the forums here.
If you have pets share which ones and how you're doing your themes as well if you would like! Right now I'm trying to very gradually work on Morphogenetic Sorrow, Leaf Words, and Jumpydoll. Currently just amassing their treasure chests and working on making them as good tributes as I can without descending into overt spoilery territory.
Also please tag your spoilers. But yes! Fans out there want to chatter?
What got you into the series? What did you like best about it? What did you think of the After game Answers if you've read each of them?
I have the pet 999. c: /pokes profile for link gotta get to the TC making soon ;O;
I'd love to chat about 999 as that's the only game I've played (I did read spoilers for the other 2 because I knew being in Europe I wasn't going to get the other 2 any time soon if at all as I don't pay to download games and get cartridges instead ;O; )!
999 talk spoilers ahead yep
I heard about 999 from gaming sites and I liked the idea of a visual adventure. Plus thrillers are my thing so it was obvious I was going to try it. 8D
I wasn't expecting the twist with June setting the game up. I was shocked at how convoluted it got at the end and how June ended up playing everyone, especially Junpei the most. I felt sorry for her but equally disgusted. It was a mixed bag of feelings. :x
When Snake got killed, I was working out possibilities as to the killer and given Clover's strange answer to Junpei at one point along the lines of "I'm next," I really, really thought Snake got killed by June. Her number of 6 + Snake's 1 + Clover's 4 equaled 2 and so I thought: Snake and Clover sound pretty inseparable so if he found out something, he'd let Clover know or she would be following him anyway when they searched the rooms for clues because he's blind duh and she seemed really protective of him, so he might not have even had a choice, and the both of them met June who for some reason wanted to dispose of them both by leaving room 2 as it was about to close thus setting off the bombs, but Snake was clever and somehow foresaw it or caught on and pushed Clover out with June. Clover, scared, didn't say anything to anyone except Zero's one of us and "I'm next. :C", because Zero = June. And I was like this is gonna be da twist y'all. Plus it was kind of obvious even before Clover brought anything up that Zero could be one of them because right at the beginning 9 shouted YOU TRICKED ME ARGHHH and while Zero could have been listening, it just seemed like he was talking to one of the 8 outside, you know? (which turned out to be true but lol not June)
EXCEPT THEN I GOT THE BAD ENDING first (way to be super traumatized by Clover at the beginning, was on edge for the rest of the endings because of that) and so much for that theory. u____u Then when June really turned out to be Zero I was like ahahahahaha I was onto you but for different reasons lmao. Plus it was weird to me how she seemed to separate from everyone else. Like she entered the ballroom / staircase bit last and she seemed to hover and move last. :x It was weird. She seemed too innocent, you know? :l
Part of me wonders why she couldn't just have had her brother solve the relatively easy sudoku puzzle?? Like holy cow you're making people go through ALL OF THAT for an easy sudoku puzzle are you out of your mind---???! So yeah, the end puzzle was anti-climactic even though the presentation on my ds was A++ (upside down was mega cool man).
I loved all the characters. Well except the guys behind the original experiment. :P Plus morphogenetic fields and all the sci-fi stuff was really cool. I guessed dog for the picture first but didn't really know why so when I got dog I was creeped out and surprised myself. xD I think through the wormhole (a show) talked about supposedly random events on a global scale looking like they were collectively influenced by our outlook or something like that ie global consciousness. It was weird. Plus the whole issue with quantum entanglement posits some interesting questions itself and while 999 didn't get into that per se it is interesting to note the real world similar topics. :3
What did you think of it? c: feel free to spoil the 2nd and 3rd game for me, it's very likely I have already read it even though with all the new characters introduced each game, I likely don't understand any of it much haha xD
also the digital root of my pet 999's id is 6 so I feel lucky <3 hahaha
edit: lmao I got a lovely couple minion random event when posting this xD that irony
LOVELY! Finally someone around <3 And I'm really glad that there are other people who have calculated their pets digital roots XD
I couldn't help myself and this 999 day I made CrashKeys and 9th Lion >.>; I now need to break the bank and work on their treasure chests.
I am glad you enjoyed 999! It's still my favorite of the trilogy but that's part it's an amazing game, part nostalgia (because you always remember the first game you play in a series) And part... it's just a wonderful game.
And I cosplay Junpei. So I'm biased >.> Also having 11 pockets makes me less willing to cosplay anything else XD
Whoops was overzealous to see a post and forgot to ping you back XD
and 999 spoilers- SPOILER (click to toggle)
Ah my first playthrough I got the coffin ending. SO GRATEFUL that the person who lent me the game and got me interested in it erased her save data or that would have been horrible. I went into the game expecting nothing. Or some sortof saw type scenario (which again I should have known better this is a jrpg after all - those are never so straighforward)
Still I was not really one for any type of horror and had actually decided against watching something like Higurashi (I even let a friend spoil things for that series for me because I'd decided 100% nope not dealing with the horror of it story or no story)
By the end of my first run I was like D: game!
Because I wanted to get that coffin open and it was just teasing enough to take me from eh this is a thing, to OH I HAVE TO KNOW MORE NOW!
Junpei was an awesome character. Yay for cosplaying him.
spoilers ahead
My favorite line from Junpei was the one about the shower. "I know because I have taken a shower before." ahahaha :'D I like how he was able to maintain his humor despite being kidnapped. xD
Oh boy, that is some first ending to get! Pretty detailed for a first ending as well. Did the others make you feel like you were regressing in terms of information or did you skip ahead to the true ending?
Never heard of Higurashi before. I like horror, but if it's really really bad, I'd prefer watching than playing, you know? ;O;
part of me doesn't want to play the trilogy through because I don't want it to get even more convoluted - to me, 999's ending was ambiguous / open-ended and suggested a sequel, BUT at the same time, it was just right, you know? with the more convoluted time travel in the 2nd and 3rd, I'm worried I'll just stop liking characters and the series :l so that too has a role in me not playing the games yet if ever
agreed on a lot of those points
SPOILER (click to toggle)
Honestly because 999 was made to be a stand alone game it can well stand alone. But the rest of the games have their own interesting points and while you might have gotten spoiled perhaps you managed to luck out and not get all of the important things spoiled - or necessarily know how those things came to be)
If I remember loosely (because back then I didn't write down my flow chart progress like I do now: Trust me when/if you play the others WRITE DOWN What you do when so you can look back and see what path you took. It's hard to remmeber and it's really fun to look back and for example be able to say I got coffin first.
I think I got Axe next? And then Sub. Oh sub. I got that one twice because I got curious about door three. Which really had some wonderful conversation moments in it D: The line about the temperature that the human body starts to break didn't hit me until the first time I played it again after the true ending and I was just ..... D:
Higurashi is a horror mystery kinetic novel - s there is no gameplay at all. You just read it. I'm far more fond of the manga because something about the anime's art style just really doesn't click with me and it's brutal. Seriously brutal
Very very very brutal. Not as brutal as corpse party but...
That said OH MY WORD if you can go into it with no spoilers <3 It's mystery done right and seeing the story unfold was worth it after I finally gave up and got curious.
I'll wholeheartedly recommend either the manga or finding the 'visual novel' though. I'm sure the anime isn't bad I haven't watched more than an episode or two, but the characters just look so young.
It has a great soundtrack and opening though. Let me find a youtube link for the intro song at least and that should help.
I went through all the ends before doing safe second to last and then true. Used a spoiler free guide to help after I got sub twice in a row XD
I enjoyed seeing all the little peices of information fit into place and then finally the ending was just really satisfying.
Oh! Have you ever read the Answers? Uchikoshi actually answered some fan questions (will mention some of them in a bit but I wanted to ask first)
ALSO! Have you heard about the remaster? We're getting voice acting D:
SPOILER (click to toggle)
I have no idea how they're going to do the Akane and perspective reveal but we'll see. I'm terribly impatient and I need to go find the best teaser -be wary of spoilers for the other two games because if you do play them you'll appreciate them better not knowing much going in
spoilersss
My memory is really short so maybe I lucked out and forgot the really important bits but still. xD
Good to know, thank you. I will do that if I get around to playing it. c:
Sub was like aw man you were so closeeeeeeeeee and yet so far lol. When Ace only asks Lotus to help him out, should have raised red flags in retrospect. Big ones.
To think someone could do that to a kid like Akane. D: And when Santa starts to break down about his sister. And we realize it's her. AAH AH
Ooh good to know. Will keep Higurashi in mind. Sounds like my type of anime. :3
I think I started to use spoiler free guides for the endings after the second or third ending because I was getting impatient. xD
I wish we got to learn more about Lotus's daughters. I was thinking someone would be related to her from the other 8 but they just let that bit go.
Nooo, I haven't read them. They would be nice to read. c:
999 is getting voice acting? Talk about awkward. I'd rather it didn't given the perspective thing. :x If it's getting remade, it should be done as a movie. Now, that's a voice acting thing I would go see. :P Would make a great movie if done right.
- happy second 999 day XP
I had a longer reply but I'm currently very sleepy and didn't want to forget to reply here. I'll go dig up some of the more interesting answers for you later!
OH did you know there is a 15 minute promotional anime for the second game? It's just a little teaser thing and does spoil some of the end of 999
SPOILER (click to toggle)
they flat out mention nevada so you know they weren't on a boat
There is one thing that they spoil for the game (for me personally since I did NOT know it would be coming since I waited on the anime short it took me seriously by surprise - and is still one of our friend's favorite ZE playthrough stories.
Long story short and avoiding spoilers I thought one thing was coming and let a friend play for a bit to see if he would be interested - and then things didn't go as I anticipated.
So I like WHIPPED over other friend and was just like shouting WHAT?! Wait WHAT?
WHEN? HOW?
XD
That unexpected thing is shown in the anime but I'm not sure how many spoilers you may or may not already have seen (should you end up wanting to play the other games) Wanted to warn you in advance. It's nice that it exists though!
spoilers
Wow, 15 minute promo? They went all out! I wanna see! :D
.. but that was one of the best twists where they are like omg omg let's get out of this sinking ship-- oh snap it's a building in the desert lmao
No idea what spoiler you're talking about unless it's a major one where the time period is off?? :O
that sucks, I hope you got to replay that bit or else way to miss out important things, I'd be nuh uh you go watch a trailer or something, my game is my game xD
- gahhh! yes! practically a year ago today, my fiance' and i picked up danganronpa 1 and 2 and finished both of them within a week! ❤ those were our first visual novels and i'm still very obsessed with the franchise! (just finished the new danganronpa anime too! it was everything i needed it to be ❤ ) but after our eyes were opened to the whole visual novel world, we looked up similar games to danganronpa and 999 was the most compared game to it. it was also by spike chunsoft so i had high hopes.
and o. m. gee. i am quite the horror fanatic let me tell you. playing this with my fiance on our big screen with the volume up high... it was one of the scariest games i've ever played. between the stomach dropping music and the psychological torment you have- wondering what will happen next, it was such a treat! the suspense was like a drug! XuX it reminded me of Goosebumps; Reader Beware, You Choose the Scare! that was my favorite book series growing up but finding this as an adult i could capture that feeling of childhood excitement in today's time, with more of an adult mood to it. 😊 p.s, snake was my favorite. cried at the end with the non-true ending. ;-; sneeekkkk...
moving straight on to vlr after 999. how invigorating; over 20 different ends! the puzzles i found to be much harder. i'm more observant and my fiance' is better with puzzle games so when he'd take too long, i'd just end up falling asleep and it'd take longer 😭 i was really surprised however that its successor was just as strong as its predecessor- if not better! i was a little disappointed though that there was nothing special behind alice. :/ the voting part of the game was my least/most favorite part. loved seeing the game change in an instant but hated breaking hearts and having everyone at my throat. like, the ending with betraying quark and everyone makes you feel like a piece of shit. or betraying luna twice, like, my heart can only take so much vileness....
oh how i wished we could have gotten the preorder for the third one with the watch! 😢 there's like, no merch on it (cheaper merch at least,) but we got a poster for 999 on etsy so at least that's something. 😖 i like how the art style changed and it went back to its horror roots. completely loved junpei as a no longer goody-two-shoes protagonist. damn though, this got dark- and in some endings, dramatic as hell! out of the 3 i'd have to say it was my least favorite, but i loved all three so i'm not saying at all that i didn't like the 3rd one ^^. the part when you typed in a "certain name" you uncover and Q team turns to the screen and talks to you... i had goosebumps! how horrifying! loved all the twists and turns! loved the coin ending, loved when you typed in GAB for when "specific character" wanted to know who killed their "lover." was totally cracking up. i felt the ending to 3 wrapped everything up super well and was overall super pleased with how it did end.
i'm excited to see what the companies who made it will do after this. the world of visual novels is only getting better :D
sorry for the novel in itself ;u; i'm just a really new, yet die-hard fan of the triology! ❤
sorry for the slow reply! Got a bit bogged down.
BUT OMG THE NONARY GAMES D:
I am so darn excited for the remasters. Have you gotten to hear the teaser voice clips yet? Karen posted them. I am even more excited after hearing them all.
Also DR are great. I am glad I finally got around to watching the anime (3) Seriously that was .... just wow.
I am waiting for the scary day that Uchikoshi gets together with the creator of danganronpa and breaks all of us
- WELCOME BACK!!! :D ❤
THE NONARRRY GAAAAAAAMMME! ;U;
SO! WE WATCHED THE PROMO ANIME/VIDEO.
XDD i hate to be the breaker of bad news, but that could never happen now because of the way they introduced it---unless they change a big part of the story!
spoiler
THEY SHOWED SIGMA AS HE SAW HIMSELF---NOT HIS OLDER SELF THAT THEY REVEAL LATE IN THE GAME!! xDD
that was the first thing i noticed ;-; so not much is going to come from that unless they change important pieces!!
;O; the series for the first dr was so fast paced. i think, if i didn't play the game first, i'd appreciate it more, but the game took so much more time building up suspense and covering every detail. (junko translated so well to anime though ❤ ahhhhh junko! ❤ ) it seems the creators of the anime learned from their mistakes and d3 i wouldn't change anything! it was so perfect!! w
where are the voice teaser clips posted? :) i'm very interested in that!
ooooh! fun fact; the creator of 999 said they got the inspiration from the Saw movies and literally my most favorite movie ever: Cube!!!
(it's so wonderful when my favorite things are related to one another!!! ^w^ )
if any more stuff comes out related to the two, i will eat it up right away! ;O; so goooooood! ❤ ❤
OMG! Someone else who actually knows the movie Cube D:
I saw that so so long ago.
And I agree with the flaws so to speak of the ah... way VLR promo was set up SPOILER (click to toggle)
(but it's ok since it actually helped the red herring along so the reveal was more... actually unexpected. Unreliable as it was it kindof worked for the twist <3
For an incompleteness since it was more or less just an advertisement for the games it was nice to see something existing.
Here is Lotus's for example
https://twitter.com/Aksys_June/status/798270167583076352
(will go scrounge up the others including the all important funyarinpa clip that was the first thing really teased)
