It wasn't a full-fledged fire or anything, I just noticed something smoking from beneath where the oven... heats, or whatever it's called? Below the actual heating part of the oven is a drawer to supposedly store cookingware, like baking sheets and things like that.

When we first moved in and my mom was stowing cookingware away in there, I warned her it could be an issue, but she claimed it was totally safe - it was designed that way, she said...

Then, earlier this afternoon, I went to reheat some leftover pizza, and after a mere 3 or so minutes I noticed smoke billowing out of the oven, and was confused - the pizza looked fine! Then I noticed flames rising up from beneath the oven (aforementioned storage drawer.)

It was a small fire, so I didn't want to call 911, and I just turned off the oven and waited for the fire to die down. When I pulled out what was burning (I was so confused - I thought all we had down there wasn't flammable) it was a baking pan indeed, but one of those baking pans with rubber handles, and that's what was burning up. There were pale charred remains in the pan itself, and the other handle looked bubbly and deformed, like it was burning as well.

Honestly I was really annoyed with my mother, I warned her about the possibility of this like 2 or 3 times beforehand, but was brushed off. I'm not the kind of person who likes to say "I told you so," but, honestly Mom, I hate to say I told you so.

I'm pretty shaken up about this since we had a really bad house fire when I was 14; we had to live in a hotel for... I don't really remember, maybe it was 3 or so months. A few years before that we had a flood, and that was really bad; we had to live in a hotel for almost a year. We spent Christmas in that hotel. So as you can imagine, I was pretty upset when this happened.

I'm okay now, since I took my anti-anxiety meds, but still, I'm just... annoyed with my mom's negligence. Ever since my dad walked out it feels like I have to be the adult around here sometimes.

But hey, on the bright side - my pizza was still good 😛

late reply but oh jeez that's rough. I hope your mom listens to you about that stuff now. My friend actually lost her house to a flood and it set her family back quite a bit, and she gets a lot of anxiety about flooding now, so it's totally understandable that you were shaken up!

What kind of pizza was it tho (important details)
