for most opponents, somas are better. stealing is very very very seldom helpful. there are the rare opponents such as Lich Lord where you do want to steal though, since stealing his sword means you pretty much win the battle. but for most cases, stolen weapons either are useless or kill you, or it's simply disabled

the effect is for the all battle?

for somas, the blast is for the whole battle. the curses and blessings it can make don't last the whole battle. it also has a small steal chance which lasts the whole battle, and it has a freeze chance that lasts a turn.

stealing with the truth serum lasts the whole battle but it isn't too helpful most of the time.
