Hello there! I'm sorry if these are trivial questions, but I have a few concerns on what we can and cannot use/be considered stealing. Are we allowed to use backgrounds that were found via Google? Or more specifically, tiled backgrounds from tumblr. What about clip art? I was thinking of photoshopping together a border from single images of candy for Munchlax. Would that be okay? And finally, general images - such the default pictures the Pokemon Co uses - not original artwork from people (not that I don't consider the Pokemon Co's work art, I hope you get my drift xD)

And needless to say, none of the lookups would be entered into contests, sold, etc. These would be for personal use and I would take no claim to anything I didn't create. And I also wouldn't use any images for pet overlays.

I know that tiled backgrounds and such can be used as long as a source is given. So if the background is labelled free for use, you'd need to link back to where you got it in your pet's profile. I'm not sure how crediting would work for clipart, so I would recommend looking up free to use images on deviantart or similar, and crediting the same way as for the tiled backgrounds. Just make sure you're giving credit to the original artist and not a repost!

As for using official art (which I assume is what you mean in the last part), I'm not sure. Hopefully someone can answer that for you.

Ah I understand, thank you! I think I'll create stuff like the clipart if I can't find it. And yes! I meant official artwork. This is where I think we run into grey areas though, because I see people using gifs/sprites of Pokemon for example, and I feel like that would be counted as 'official art'.

Gah. D: If anything I'll just try to make it myself. I've been running into issues with my tiny bamboo tablet. She doesn't run like she use to. xD

No problem! If you've seen others using official sprites and such on their profiles with no trouble then it might be fine! It may be worth asking a staff member just in case. Either way good luck!! I'm also having to wrestle with a very old and small Bamboo tablet to make graphics for one of my pets. It's a struggle!

as long as nobody is specifically forbidding you from using their art or resources, you can pretty much use whatever you want as long as you give credit - and honestly, maybe this is bad of me, but when it comes to things like backgrounds, i don't usually bother adding a credit. but for example if you wanted to use official pokemon sprites, you could just add a note on the page saying "pokemon sprites (c) nintendo" or something like that. if it's an individual's artwork, you'd probably be best off asking their permission, and if they say yes (with credit of course) then you could do the same thing, i.e. "candy drawing by ____" and include a link to their blog/deviantart/wherever they share their art.

that said, it's not against any site rules NOT to give credit, only the spotlight rules, so if you aren't entering the pet into the spotlight, you're not going to get in trouble or anything.
