Hi there, I recently started doing monster high faceups and just kind of wanted some feedback In the future I plan on completely rerooting new hair so they are more custom but right now I am low on funds to purchase hair
Anyway these were my first 2 dolls each took around maybe 3-4 hrs. Both of the bases were draculaura
I am considering selling the premade ones and making custom made to order ones

These are really lovely! I really like the creativity of the repaint with the dripping eyes!
In terms of hair, how set are you on the ponytails? They're cute and I think they look great as they are, but if you wanted to further customize them, I've seen people wash the doll's hair while it's on them or even color it while it's still connected [don't know how feasible that is after having already done the repaint and sealant!!], as well as being able to curl or otherwise change the hair that the doll came with without needing fancy or expensive materials.
Out of curiosity, are there any repaint artists that you like?
Thak you so much! I washed the pigtails, but left the hair as is since when i did the first one and washed the bangs it was really hard to get them to lay flat again (The one with the normal eyes) I had to use really hard core spray gel for mohawks to even get it somewhat in place.
I have a bald lagoona I wanna reroot but I need to make some money selling these before I can buy hair. I have tons of plans to compltely customize them. I am actually about to start modding a Boo York Nefera into one of my characters. My character Vivica already has teal hair so it works really great, I just took out the white streak and replaced some of the plugs with the same teal from another Nefera that i will probably just completely reroot.
As for my favorite repaint artists I really like Dollightful, HeXitan and Anastazia Custom on youtube
I also am going to start learning how to sew my own clothes for them
I laughed at the hard core spray gel part; I can imagine how difficult it must've been to work with such short doll hair!
I hadn't heard of Anastazia Custom before, but I like their work, and I like Dollightful and HeXitan, too. I also like Kikis Doll Repaints, Nicolle's Dreams, and I really like Darya Space, who also sews her own clothes for dolls; they're all on youtube, too. Your plans for future dolls sound really fantastic! It all sounds so exciting; I've always liked how hand-sewn clothes looked on the dolls. I also hope you continue to share your progress, because it's really cool to see! Vivica sounds interesting, and I'd love to know more about her, too. Do you have any plans for customizing the bodies, too? Off the top of my head I thought of the mermaid doll HeXitan made, and just in general repainting the bodies adds another touch of originality and creativity! Also, I'm so sorry it took me so long to reply, I was really nervous and wanted to word things well 😅No need to be nervous, i'm not very good with words either! I actually started on Vivica but had to stop cause I need replacement arms and a couple other things.
I usually post wip pictures on my instagram
I really wanna do some extreme customs, I have ideas on how to make the dolls I sell even cuter which is making custom portrait cards of the characters that the buy can tell me the name and I can add in a nice text or they can just write it in later if they want.
I'm so excited about these dolls lol I just need some money to start out with so i can get doll hair, fabric and materials
Thinking of opening up art commissions for a bit to get some funds but not super sure right now
Yoooo I adore that second Draculara! I am amazed at how quickly you finished them! I have a Neighthan and a Viperine that I plan to work on someday, but I'm too nervous to start! Right now I'm practicing on a couple mlp's I picked up. But it's slow going. I keep getting distracted while waiting for the sealant to dry, and I can't sit still for too long.
Are you using acrylics or pencils to do your faceups? And what kind of sealant do you use?
I'm actually starting up on a few, myself!! I'd only ever done faceups on old MLP dolls, in the past, but I found about six monster high dolls at goodwill the other day and I'm going to try my hand at it!!
As far as hair goes, have you considered either using yarn or making a wig instead of rethreading? I've seen some really promising videos that used cheap hair extensions and weave, as well, so that's a thing!!
