I feel like such a childish idiot right now... and it's not getting any better. I was having such a good night too.

See I have a pretty bad insectphobia mainly with the usual creepy crawlies and annoying buzz bastards... Anyway I've been kinda scared of house flies.. mainly because their noise freaks me out, it just unsettles me to my core and it's been that way for years now.

But I'll spare details. I still don't understand why personally.

So as I was saying, I was having a good night, my door to my room was locked, I have no food or anything in my room, it's clean, it was quiet I was playing a game, it was nice... out of nowhere I hear this very loud buzzing noise, I nearly vault off the bed... I got the hell out of my room and just wanted to cry...

I'm pathetic I know... I get that they can't hurt me, it's not the bug that really gets me freaked out it's their damn noise. At least with that one, others give me panic attacks but house flies are the absolute worst.

Sorry I seem to be sounding like a whiny little bitch, I suppose. Just needed to vent. You can laugh and mock me if you'd like.

It's not silly or pathetic at all. Phobias can sometimes be irrational (this is coming from someone with a fear of mannequins/dolls, it doesn't get much more irrational than inanimate objects!), but it doesn't make how you're feeling any less valid. I'm sorry a jerk fly had to come ruin your night.

Can you get someone to come kill it or get rid of it for you?

I'm also here if you need someone to talk to. :)

I hate the buzzing sound near my ears. It makes my skin crawl and I just nope so so hard. I usually just literally block my ears and go away. It's totally understandable hun!

Have you been able to reenter your room yet? Could you open the door to it in hopes that the fly will buzz on out? Maybe you can go in with a fly swatter and a pair of ear plugs so you don't hear the buzzing! :)

I have. I left it open half the night and it seems to have left. I have headphones that help. I might need to get a fly swatter though.

I don't think it's silly or anything at all. I've got a major fear of flies too. They're just so... Sinister, and I hate their noises, and I hate the germs they carry. So yeah I'm not laughing at you, I'm cringing with you. Technically it ought to be weirder to be scared of spiders, since they don't try to fly at people's heads at least!

Oh those buggers freak me out too but sometimes I can handle dealing with them myself. Flies... I just can't... -cringe-

Thank you for responding~

Yes, phobias are irrational fears, but that doesn't make your feelings any less valid. We all have our "buttons" and flies are simply one of yours. I commend you for dealing with your terror in an unusual, but productive manner.

Most people would have cowered in the corner, or simply been a bundle of nerves all night. You had the strength and courage to find an outlet for your feelings and got some emotional support as well. I hope this serves as an example of positive action to others when they are faced with a similar situation. Kudos! :)

I live in MN, and whatever you've heard... It's much worse.
