I stumbled across some summaries about it and... I hate it. It's like destroying the whole thing. The plot is bad, I can't stop thinking it's a mixed thing of all the bad fanfiction clichés. Voldemorts daughter, like come on... My favourite character is Snape and the part with him is really out of character. He wouldn't be honoured to have Harry Potter name his child after him. He may vomit.
What do you think?
At first I really wanted to read the book but I'm not sure if it will be worth it? Most sequels were total let down or turned out to be completely OOC (and created more plot holes).
Coming from the summary, I really want to believe that it will be good! But will it be ... that's another thing. I kept reading the summary a couple days ago and I don't like the premise of it. As a huge potter nerd, it just smelled like drama and teenage angst to me.
So yeah - I might simply end up borrowing instead of buying.
I know what you mean , I canceled my pre-order for the book. I'm not even sure if I want to read it at all. I'm a potterhead through and through, I own the books in german and in english because back in the old days I couldn't wait til it was translated. Always thought my love for HP isn't going to calm down, I'm 29 now and because I don't want that to happen I doubt that I want to read it....
You're right about the teenie thing and even though HP always had teenie topics (well, they were teenagers after all), it never was that over the top and unbelievable like it is now. During reading I continued to say things like "is she serious?" and "Oh come on...". xD
What exactly is the plot? People keep talking about seeing spoilers but I haven't really seen any. All I know is that people aren't happy with it. I want to read it cause it's Harry Potter, but being unable to see the play, reading the script would be like only experiencing half of it because so much of it depends on the sound and lights and everything that would go on during the play. So I'm not sure if I will, but I'd like to.
I wanted to read it but now...not anymore. Alright, I will write and copy something for you:
Rose, Albus and Scorpius are going to Hogwarts, Rose is going to Gryffindor and Al and Scorp are sorted into Slytherin. Al and Scorp become best friends, Rose hates Scorp but Scorp is secretly in love with her. There are rumours that Scorpius is Voldemort's child because Draco is infertile and his wife travelled back in time to get pregnant... Al is laughed at because he's a Potter and still in Slytherin. He is always compared to Harry and grows apart from his father. Harry’s scar has started to hurt again and he is beginning to hear Voldemort’s voice and have terrible nightmares about his childhood and Voldy and this leads everyone to believe that there is Death Eater resurgence occurring. Al is getting even closer to Scorpius, they also befriend a girl named Delphi. Together they overhear a conversation between Harry and Amos Diggory who still is angry with Harry because of Cedric's death. The kids break into the ministry using polyjuice, steal a Time Turner and want to save Cedric. Their plan is to make Ced loose so that he won't touch the cup. -.- Alrighty, they mess up time and because of that Rose isn't born because Ron and Hermione are not married etc. Anyhow, Al and Harry starts to argue a lot and Harry tells him something like "I wish I wasn't your father". He event wants to forbid his friendship with Scorpius ("after Harry disallows Albus from being friends with Scorpius bc he is concerned for Al’s safety, there is literally a ten minute sequence with magical bookcases showing Al and Scorp being so close yet so far apart and how miserable they both are and it is the gayest shit ever"). Al and Scorp travel back in time again, mess up even more and as Scorp returns, Al is gone and Harry is dead since 20 years, Umbridge rules Hogwarts and Voldemort rules all... End of part I
Part II: The play starts with the new world that has been created as a result of Scorpius and Al messing with time. Scorpius is like famous at Hogwarts and is called the Scorpion King and his family is pretty much treated as royalty in this new universe bc they are largely in charge of getting rid of Muggle-borns. Scorpius apparently does a lot of evil shit in this world and came up with the idea to imprison Muggle-Born students in the dungeons at Hogwarts and he (regular Scorpius) feels guilty about this. Scorpius goes to Draco to ask him about what is going on and they have a long conversation about how Scorp is “different” now (Draco is actually pissed at Scorpius bc he caught wind that Scorp was asking around about Harry and the Battle of Hogwarts and this is very unlike him). Draco and Scorpius part with this weird handshake that everyone in the Voldemort world part with but somewhere in the conversation it is mentioned that Snape is still alive and so Scorpius goes to Snape and asks him for help. Snape doesn’t believe Scorpius at first about all the time stuff and calls him insolent and annoying but then Scorpius mentions how he loved Lily and Snape eventually realizes he is telling the truth. Throughout the whole convo Scorpius is telling Snape about how brave he is and all that he did and how Harry named his son after him and it’s pretty much JK Rowling just having a huge circle jerk for Snape and excusing all of his abuse bc he was a hero in the end and Snape finally agrees to help him (because of Lily) and takes Scorpius to this secret room where the only people fighting against Voldemort are and Ron and Hermione show up. So anyway Scorp convinces the three of them that he is telling the truth and they believe him bc he knows information about them no one else could possibly know and he reveals their fates in the canon universe to them and they decide to help him. They concoct a plan for all of them to go back to each task, use shield charms to counteract the spells Albus and Scorpius used to try to help Cedric live, and set everything back to how it was. They all successfully deflect the charm for the first task but they run into trouble before being able to set the second one right because something goes wrong and they end up near Dementors and are running out of time. Hermione and Ron the kiss after fighting. Snape and Scorp go into another part of the forest but are met by more Dementors and Snape fends them off by casting his Patronus (the doe) and Scorp is like “you are so brave and incredible blah blah blah”. Scorp can escape and we see Snape receive the Kiss as well. Snape also tells Scorp to tell Harry he is proud to have Albus bearing his name. (i gagged) Scorp then fixes the stuff with the second task and Albus is back and they return to the canon universe.
Will post more later due character limit
Well that was...quite a read. That went in so many different directions. I can understand why being Harry's son would give Al huge expectations and everything, but he didn't need to tell him that. (That's like the one spoiler I got.) And Snape?? Where did he come from? I don't know, if I read it at all I'll probably borrow it but won't anytime soon. Like I said, if I could see the play that'd be a different matter but it seems like everything was changed just for the sake of having a new story that would sell.
Second half:
After Al and Scorp had been found by their parents, Scorpius told them he had lost the Time Turner and all of them are super pissed and worried. However, that night, Scoprius reveals to Albus that he still has it and they decide to destroy it and go to the Owlery to do so. Delphi comes up and is like “I’ll help you destroy it” and they hand it to her and when she turns away to put it in her bag Albus compliments this like wing tattoo she has on her back and she is coyly like “oh yeah it’s the symbol of the Augury, they can see the future” and then Scorp is like “wait…in the universe where Voldemort ruled there was an Augury…” and then it is revealed that Delphi is a sympathizer of Voldemort and that she plans to steal the Time Turner and make sure Voldemort rules again, using Al and Scorp to do it bc some prophecy she knows said Albus has to do it himself.
Ginny and Harry discovers that there is a prophecy involving an “unseeing parent” and murder of said parent and all of this will lead to Voldemort’s return. We then find out that Voldemort has a daughter…and it is Delphi. So Al, Scorp, and Delphi go to the Third Task and Delphi has complete control over them at this point bc she broke their wands. Al and Scorp decide together that they will die if it means that she won’t succeed and Delphi gets pissed but right before she can harm them Cedric barges in and immobilizes her. He unlocks Al and Scorp’s bound hands and before he leaves (to go to his untimely death), Albus tells Cedric that Amos loved him a lot and it is so sad.
Okay so I can’t remember exactly how it happens but Delphi then somehow escapes with the two of them and traps them in time, taking them into the past to the night of James and Lily Potter's death.
There is a conversation between Dumbledore and Harry somewhere that's pretty much JK excusing Dumbledore’s abusive behavior by saying that Dumbledore genuinely cared about Harry or some shit... Draco comes to Harry after that and reveals that there is another Time Turner which Lucius owned.
Al and Scorp use magic to send a message to present Harry through his childhood blanket (and of course they watch at it just in time and come to the rescue...). They then realize that Delphi does not intend to kill Harry but rather warn Voldemort not to do it in the first place, since it is this murder that caused him to be destroyed. Someone also mentions that she wants to meet him in person bc he is her father and she just wants to be with him.
They all decide that one of them will disguise themselves as Voldemort and there is a really long argument about who will do it. Harry finally volunteers. So Harry is transfigured into Voldemort and everyone agrees that they will hide in rooms in the church until Harry lures Delphi into a specific spot where they will “zap” her, as Ron puts it. Delphi does come up to the church and reveals that she is the daughter of Voldemort and Bellatrix, born just a few months before the Battle of Hogwarts, and that Rodolphus is the one who told her (insert audience gasp and me rolling my eyes). Harry keeps trying to get her into the one spot but Delph telling him that Voldemort should not kill Harry, Unfortunately, the spell begins to wear off and Harry turns away from her so she doesn’t see but Delphi catches on. They fight with him, she locked the doors so no one can help him, Harry almost dies a couple of times but in the end she's defeated. The next scene is absolutely heart-breaking, as Harry has to watch both of his parents die in person, for he knows it is the only way to ensure the canon timeline stays intact.
After Delphi is captured and sent to Azkaban, we see Scorp and Al back at Hogwarts, where Scorp reveals he has asked Rose out, then adds that she said no but he knows she will come around eventually. The play ends with Albus and Harry going on a walk and having a conversation where Harry reveals they are at Cedric’s grave and they have a conversation in which Harry promises to be a better dad and Albus pledges to be a better son.

Snape is alive in that new world because of the time change things... I agree with you. To me it's like she wanted all the favourite charas to make an appearance no matter what.
i wasn't very excited about it to begin with but the spoilers turned me off of it altogether. it literally reads like a fanfic from 2005.
Oh boy it is like a fanfiction. I love new stories in the same universe, but if there are too many characters from the original story it gets kinda...boring almost. I want new characters and a new plot and this seems just all over the place.
