Ok mini ranty thing here, I recently bought Fire emblem fate (conquest) and I was really looking forward to it.. until I found out all the changes they made to it. I really regret wasting my money on it tbh I kinda just put it down and haven't played it again yet (I haven't even finished it). I regret pre-ordering it too. never pre-ordering a game again (unless it's pokemon, 'cause c'mon, it's pokemon)

Anyway, what games were you looking forward to and really wanted but once you got them turned out to be super disappointing?

I put more than 114 hours into Fire Emblem: Fates.

The Harvest Moon series has kind of fizzled out for me, but I don't think I've been disappointed by any of them. Just having tastes change.

Even with preordering, I've generally found that the Internet will make sure to tell you what kind of changes to expect from the Japanese version (if they got one first) or what their plans are, so I follow a few different gaming sites, and the games I buy have turned out to deliver what they promised they would. For ones I'm less sure of (e.g. new IP, first game for a developer), I don't preorder, but I preorder a lot of stuff (I like me some bonuses), and I've yet to be like, "welp, not doing that again."

Bravely Default for me. I wanted to love this game, I really did. The areas are pretty, I love the hand-painted look of the towns, I love that your characters actually change appearance when you change jobs, I think the combat is unique and cool (and actually difficult at the beginning, random enemies don't die from 1-2 melee hits)

BUT

The 4 main characters are awful. Completely, 100% awful. They are so annoying, I can't even. I didn't get very far into the game, I quit in the clock town in the desert.

Evolve... I played for like 2 hours during the beta because it took forever to download but those 2 hours were awesomeness. It was dead like the day after release though :( not nearly as epic as I'd expected and obviously not sustainable.

I would have to say my most disappointing game (even though not recent) was Paper mario sticker star. I was really looking forward to that game, then when I got it I was really disappointed. I really hope this newer paper mario game coming out will be better. I really miss the rpg element that was in the paper mario series. :(

That game would have to be "The Legend of Legacy" for me. When I first saw it online available for pre-order (despite the unoriginal name), it looked so cool. The art, the music, a choice to play as one of six characters (each with a different background and class), and the storybook feel when you travel mapping the locations were very appealing, and had so much potential.

But then when I played it, there was no plot, or character development for anyone. There was no direction to lead you either, so it was very confusing. It could be a much better game if it had a bit more of a storyline...

The Evil Within.

I had been looking forward to that game ever since it was announced and ended up being sorely disappointed. It started out GREAT and I was so into it, but then as you progressed, it just became a senseless gory shoot-em-up instead of a horror game. It had some really great moments (and the DLCs for Kidman were 150% better than the actual game, which shouldn't be a thing when you're making a video game), but overall, it just left much to be desired for me.

I was pretty disappointed when Spore was released several years ago. Granted, I probably expected waaaay to much from it (I kinda thought of it of a game like the Sims, just with Aliens ^^). I like the creature builder a lot, but the whole rest of the game appears to be created just for the sake of having any kind of content besides that builder, you can clearly see it was not the main focus. :/

In recent years, I say Paper Mario: Sticker Star is definitely up there. It was so bland. I could have forgiven the awful combat system if the story was at least enjoyable... but nope. No partners, the crown sticker was extremely unlikable, and the world itself was dead. I quit 4 worlds in.

Growing up, Spyro 4. I loved the original trilogy so much and wanted to love the 4th. But, it was super glitchy, the load times were upwards to a minute (on a Gamecube), and it was just an incomplete mess. It was so upsetting to see my favorite series at the time die.

Probably Happy Home Designer. I mean, I didn't really REALLY want it, but I was interested because I have ACNL. It was cute and fine at first but idunno, it didn't really hold my interest like I hoped it would. I ended up putting it down less than a week after playing and I haven't touched it since.

I'm about to 100% that game. There are so many adorable things, but if you're not an amiibo collector, it loses a lot of replayability. I'm missing 10 cards out of 400 (i should get the rest next week), so EVERYTHING IS AWESOME.

Puzzles and Dragons - Mario Edition is my major dud. The skill curve, man. The friggin skill curve.

The Division. My friends and I were so hyped about it and played the beta quite a lot. Then the game released and we played it nonstop the first week (what a way to spend spring break). But then...I just kind of stopped. I lost interest. I got bored of going around the Dark Zone for better loot. I heard that there are raids now, so maybe I can get back into it??

Totally agree with Paper Mario Sticker Star though. I loved the first two Paper Mario games on the N64 and Gamecube (not so much the Wii) so this was a bummer.

Honestly, it was Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. I grew up with the original games back in 03'. I mean the story was great and I didn't like much of the story after that with Rayquaza it wasn't enjoyable. And to be able to fly with the two roamers were cool (Latias/Latios) But you were able to catch legendary Pokemon which is a cool mix but didn't like it so much. Emerald will be my favorite version of all the time. I was really hoping to play an upgraded Battle Pyramid in these games. That's more fun then catching random legends on a flying latias in my opinion. Idk when you been excited for years about this remake (it's my favorite generation) and then it finally comes and the kid inside you is super disappointed it sucks. I mean I still play here and there but I really wanted the kids to experience the game I grew up with but guess they didn't want them to :/

Echoing Sticker Star and Happy Home Designer.

Sticker Star. Ugh. I've been a huge fan of Paper Mario since the first game, and Sticker Star was such a huge letdown for the reasons that have already been mentioned above. And, on a somewhat related-unrelated note, from what I can tell, Color Splash looks like it's going to be just as bad if not worse :x

Happy Home Designer. I won't lie, it's a cute game and I love the fact that you can customize houses with all kinds of new furniture and such. While I don't regret getting it exactly, I just haven't been playing it nearly as much as I thought I would. After a while it starts to feel tedious, and I end up taking long breaks and forgetting about it. In fact, I don't think I've played it but three or four times since I got it o.O I guess I kind of thought it would be more like The Sims for some reason x)

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer

I LOVE the series, not this title because all you EVER do is design homes/buildings. You don't even have your own home that you can design. Plus I LOVED goofing off in the previous four titles - dealing with your house, fishing, bug catching, and/or just chatting with the villagers.

Within a few days of getting it, I stopped playing it. I haven't touched it since. I really should have looked at what other people said about the game BEFORE I went and bought it...

Eh? I liked OR/AS! I had Emerald too but never really did the battle frontier. I understand about the lack of the frontier in the remake but I liked just about everything else. The story, the aftergame, Mirage spots.... :)

Final Fantasy 13 for me. I'm a pretty big FF fan (addicted to 14 right now) and the game looked so good and it was on steam sale, so I bought it. ...Final Hallway would have been a more fitting name for this...
