Okay...so...not entirely sure what to say to start this. I use to have an account on here a really long time ago, but I'm still unfamiliar with how of lot of things on here work.

so I'd better start listing stuff about me I suppose before I go off topic. -I enjoy, horror movies, clowns, and 30s cartoons. -I like to draw. I'm not great at it. I dare say I'm mediocre at best, but I still like to do it. -My spelling and grammar is atrocious, and I'm sorry.

Welcome back to Subeta! A lot has definitely changed in five years! Heck, a lot has changed in six months, I reckon. I recently got back after a huge hiatus myself.

I've never met someone who likes clowns! People are usually terrified of them, myself included, but I totally respect that. Is there anything in particular that you like about them? Or is it the horror aspect that you enjoy?

It actually makes me a bit sad that no one really likes clowns, but to each their own and i understand having a fear of them because of how they're used in a lot of horror today. I think the biggest thing I like about them is how they look, I just think their makeup and cloths are pretty neat, and as far as horror clowns go, I do prefer them if only because I find them weirdly cute. Mostly monster clowns though not clowns like IT that are played by middle aged men. In fact Pennywise is legitimately the only clown that bothers me on any level and its because for some reason my head says "he doesn't have sufficient make up and it looks really weird."

For me, personally, I think the makeup is part of the horror. Not being able to see their face properly. But then, I'm also uncomfortable around mascots and people wearing motorbike helmets, so maybe I'm not the best judge. ;) The makeup of old-fashioned clowns, pre-horror, could be pretty cool though. I would love to pinpoint when clowns were suddenly an accessory to horror rather than family-friendly entertainment.

I get where you're coming from. In that notion, are you okay with "red clowns"/"Auguste clowns"? They only have make up around their mouth and eyes, the rest is clear skin, or at the very least a slight red tinting.

well, penny wise's face is completely covered in make up, its just that he doesn't have enough detail in it to make it "normal" looking to me. I absolutely LOVE vintage clowns, especially the ones that originated from France.

The earliest use of "evil clowns" I could find was in "La femme de Tabarin" an opera from 1874. though what is thought to have started the trend of the use of clowns as horror icons was Stephen King's "It"

From my understanding, you can only get Neelas from the Cash Shop, elixirs, or the zapper, but I'm not an expert on the new pets. The Bumbus is probably new for you as well, and the Xotl and Archyan (probably spelled both of those wrong).

I had to Google Auguste clowns, but they don't seem as scary to me as the full makeup. I guess it's Pennywise that truly put the fear in me. That sort of clown is pretty spooky. Not sure about vintage clowns, but they would probably scare me too. A lot of things scare me. :) I admire your passion for clowns. It's good to like things despite what the main consensus about them is!

That's a bit odd that you cant get them like normal pets. I think I got a "life like" doll of one of them from the circus ruffle raffle though. I definitely do not remember the adorable Giant fat bees, axolotl frogs, or ribbon lions. they are all super cute, and you spelled them correct I think.

I'm glad, they're a lot more "human" looking I suppose. Penny wise is a "white face" clown, which is basically what it sounds like, white base paint over the entire face with details put over it.

with vintage clowns, They are kind of creepy since a lot of photos are black and white and look a bit different from modern day clowns. my favorite type of vintage clowns look more like teenagers and kids. They basically have very cute round faces, are very mime like, and are normally what is depicted with collectible clowns dolls.

I did end up Googling vintage clowns and there is definitely an element of creepiness. It might be the more exaggerated expressions that are getting to me, mixed with the grayscale and the age of the images.

I feel like I'm learning a lot about something I otherwise wouldn't research. :)

Yeah! It's amazing to me that, at one point, clowns existed in a totally different world to the one we live in today. There were literally no negative connotations about them. They were just funny guys being funny. Entertainment for the whole family. Now I think that it's just an ingrained thing in a lot of people. I know that even some little kids these days are scared of clowns, though they have no reason to be. They're never watched IT, after all.

It's extremely strange, I know Ronald McDonald spawned from that time to get kids buying more food just 'cause he was a clown. I think with kids now is the whole "there's weird strange guy is trying to talk to me." that and I'm sure they've seen some sort of creepy clown thing due to the internet and Halloween.

Oh, right! Halloween! I forget about that, because it's not as big of a holiday outside of America, heh. I'd forgotten about Ronald McDonald too. The element of "strange man speaking to me" is definitely part of the horror aspect too, you're right. It's like, why is this man in my personal space? Why does he want me to laugh so much?

I keep forgetting that Halloween is mostly an american holiday, like 90% of our holidays xD I think the last time I actually saw Ronald was on a commercial about a year or two ago when they tried to phase him back in, but it didn't really work because hes terrifying grown make talking to children without their parents around trying to get them to eat his burgers and nuggets. there are so many things wrong with that.

I can just imagine how hard it is to be a clown, how are you suppose to respond to a crying child when you are the reason they're crying.
