Hey guys! I've been drawing for many years and often do commissions for subeta folks, but lately I've been feeling sort of meh about my tablet. I use an Intuos Pen, which is considered a beginning tablet. Because I've been drawing so long and have a small following now, I feel like it's time to upgrade. I don't have a lot of money, though, so I am debating going for it or not. So my question is: for those of you that use either the older Intuos tablets or the newer Intuos Pros, have they been well worth it in comparison to the smaller tablets?

(Also let me know which one you own and how affordable it is lol)

He doesn't use Subeta much so I'll just sort of post in his stead LOL

My boyfriend has the Intuos Pro Medium - he started out waaaay back in the day with a teeny-tiny Bamboo Fun, and has had (I think) 2 other tablets between. All Wacom. I think he paid 350$ for the Medium, but he bought it while it was on sale at Best Buy (regular price is like 500$).

He does regular commissions and draws pretty much every single day of the week, so for him it practically paid for itself. He constantly tells me how much he loves the damn thing. It's been in use for about a year now, and he's had literally no issues with it at all. Apparently the larger size (especially when you're working on big/high-detail images) helps a lot; it gives you a better area to rest your wrist/arm against, so you'll get less strain. I should mention that he rests the tablet in his lap when he draws, as he typically works from the sofa.

I've been using it to learn to draw, and because I'm a beginner I personally find it a bit heavy/bulky. But, like I said - I'm not exactly accustomed to using a tablet at all.

[edit]I just realised you're probably not canadian and all my $$ amounts are in CAD, not USD

all or nothing, it's written in blood.

i have an Intuos Pen/Touch Small and it's good enough for me! i know a user on Deviantart (who i met through Neopets) who uses a Bamboo and she has mad drawing skills and a huge foxfan following - i was so shocked when i found out she used such a cheap tablet! i also know a ton of people on Deviantart who use Intuos Pro Medium as opposed to the Cintiq that they could afford with their insane commission/Patreon prices, so i don't really think that the type of tablet really matters unless your old tablet is really bringing you a lot of discomfort. i do hope you can get more opinions, and i love to see your art grow! c:

Thank you both! I am still seriously considering buying one, because I do feel limited by the size of the small Intuos Pen. I've also never really liked it to begin with haha.

I was in a similar situation as you earlier this year when I bought my Intuos Pro Medium. I had been using an Intuos 4 medium for I want to say like 5 years (or more) and it's USB port had grown really loose. Thankfully there was two spots to put the USB in so I could use the other but still its always good to have a backup.

I believe I paid around $350 for mine at the time(the Pro Medium). It came with a wireless adapter so you can choose to not use the usb cord. It definitely was worth it and is by far my favorite tablet I've ever used. It even includes a touch screen so you can use your finger. :)

Honestly, I don't think intuos is worth it. I've always had wacom bamboos and such, and they work just as well. My friend had an intuos and it was no better than my dinky little tablet. I paid under $100 dollars for my tablet and it's lasted over 5 years! However, if you're looking for the touch screen option, perhaps it's worth the extra money. The cheap guys don't have that feature. xD

I went ahead and got one (the thread is from May) and tbh, I love it so much more than the bamboo. To me it was wayyy worth it. More drawing space and more pressure sensitivity make for a whole different drawing experience.
