(I hope this is the right forum for this!)
Now that I've moved my balloon gallery to the new system, I'm trying to decide how to organize it into categories. In my old gallery, the items were sorted by what the balloons looked like: airships, pet-shaped balloons, holiday balloons, etc. But I wasn't totally happy with it, because some items didn't really fit into any of the categories. Now I'm considering organizing by item type: books, CWs, minions, etc. But then, some items are more than one type!
Does anyone have suggestions for the best method? And for those of you with largish galleries, what sort of system do you use for your categories? I'd love to take a look at your galleries for inspiration if you don't mind sharing :3
Ah, I liked the old category system a lot. :P By what they looked like was a cool way to organize, a little more personal than the site categories. Though the site categories might be simpler overall? I also like the idea or sorting them all by color!
I don't have a gallery currently. My old hoard had a system where everything was sorted by "holiday", really roughly though. Like, all winter/christmas/cold items in one category, all scary/old/mysterious/halloween items in one, everything pink/romantic in another. "Easter" got all my extra foods that didn't fit anywhere else, 4th of july got all stars and space items because they looked good with fireworks items. I guess that might be sorting by aesthetic? I don't know if something like that is possible with your balloons, you sure have enough of them to get creative tho.
Oh, I'd definitely recommend an "ultimate favorites" category for your most proud and favorite items though! I love when people do that, it's so neat to see which items everyone likes the best.
Thanks! Good to know the old system worked :D Maybe doing it by appearance/aesthetic could work and I could just have a miscellaneous category for what doesn't fit XD
And I definitely want to put my favorites together! Thanks for the ideas :D
I don't know if you can see other people's legacy galleries or not, but if so my Arboretum.
Its a gallery of vegetation. I separated it into types, seeds, flowers, greenery, fruit, veggies, tools, mushrooms, etc.
I like the idea of your original set up even if some things didn't fit. Mackenzi's suggestion of colour coordinating is good too.

Yes, I was still able to see it :D Very nice! I like how you separated it, plus that you had a guide to show what was where. I think I'm gonna steal that idea once I get it all organized :3
Also, omg your user profile is so informative and well-organized! If I ever get through working on my gallery and pets, I might get around to fixing mine up ;X;
(And what are you going to do about all your galleries with the new system? :( )
Thank you! And yes please feel free to borrow the index idea :). Mine is out of date, so I'll have to make a new one when and if I decide to move to a "new gallery".
Other than my arboretum, all my galleries are just storage and convenience. I never meant to create a library, for example, but I was working on library quests and books got so expensive that I decided to spend some weeks restocking and vending to make questing easier. Just stuffed everything into one gallery to keep it central. Same thing happened with my food gallery - but in that case it was food searching for my gourmand achievements.
For now, I don't really plan on doing anything with my hoards. Just leave them there. Occasionally take stuff out to sell, or use for quests or events. I've spent so much time sorting and categorizing that I just don't have the energy to do it all over again.
