I had to get a new SD card for my New 3DS XL because the 4gb old one the system came with ran out of space, unfortunatly while I can redownload all the games I had on there.....the save data wasn't so simple.

I've googled how to move save data from one SD card to another and sadly while I'm tech savvy, i'm not THAT savvy. After starting off so well I ran into a confusing mess. " move this folder", "don't merge this folder", "you need to format to keep the save data on the new card", " you need to download a 3rd party formatting tool for that". It this point I might have very well destroyed my old SD Card's save data as I tried to replace/merge the folders (after copying it to desktop) and the process was going to take 15 HOURS to complete.

I may ask someone at Gamestop but I don't drive so it may take weeks and I have been wanting to play Fire Emblem Birthright which I'd hate to start over due to a data move. Currently, I'm thinking I'll just have to give up. All I have/had is Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow and Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. The first three I plan to move my pokemon to Red or Blue on my other 3DS and start over but Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon is my issue. The game isn't easy for those unfamiliar with it and I nearly rage quit and threw my 3DS across the room afew times ( especally with the final boss), I don't know if I have the heart to start over again but at the same time maybe it'll go better. I sadly can't just swap between SD cards like memory cards due to where the SD slot is located on the New 3DS and I'm worried I could damage the back casing on the 3DS by takeing it off too much.

I know the forums here are slow to respond but....what do you think I should do? Should I wait and see if Gamestop can tell me how I can somehow move my save data without loseing what I have on the new card or just start over completely? Also if anyone with experence with this can share their knowlage or what they eventually ended up doing when they had to swap cards, that would be great.

I tried using the wifi transfer for the new 3DS and I will never do it again. I didn't even let it finish. I removed my casing and it took about 2 hours. If you want your save data, open it. I lost a lot of my data because my sD corrupted on my old 3ds and the last file that was backed up was months ago. I haven't played Stella Glow because I'm so heartbroken without my save file.

I'm not sure at what point in the process you ran into a problem, so I'm not sure what advice to give.. I just upgraded from a regular 3DS to a New 3DS XL (Hyrule edition, so shiny and lovely) today, and the transfer between my old SD card and the new micro SD card was really simple. Getting the back panel off of the system was the hardest part (seriously, why is this thing locked down like Fort Knox)

This is all I did:

Turn off the 3DS and remove the old SD card Insert the old card into the SD slot on your computer (you mentioned having the folder on your desktop so I assume you have an SD slot) Open This PC and double click the icon for the SD card Right-click the Nintendo 3DS folder and drag it onto the desktop, select Copy Here from the menu that appears Go back to This PC, right click the SD card and choose Eject Remove the old SD card from the computer Insert new SD card Open This PC, double click the icon for the new SD card to open it, and drag the Nintendo 3DS folder from the Desktop onto the new card Go back to This PC after the transfer is finished, right click the SD card and choose Eject Remove new SD card from computer and put it in the 3DS

I had 6 GB of data to transfer between my cards and it took maybe 15-20 minutes tops to transfer both ways

There shouldn't be any formatting or third party software required, it's literally just a file transfer.

As long as you didn't delete anything off the old card or drag any folders from the desktop onto the old card, the data on it shouldn't be corrupted or lost. You should be able to delete the Nintendo 3DS folder off the desktop and any folders off the new SD card and try again.

If you let me know at what point you ran into problems or what exact steps you were following, I might be able to give more specific advice.
