Baihu means "White Tiger" in Chinese, and it's actually sort of a religious figure in both China and Japan.

Having given the news post and its comments a closer look, I'm way more convinced that it would make more sense if the Baihu was called something else.

It's really confusing to me that staff decided to use an obscure name for the legendary Baihu and instead use it on a cloud-themed fox instead, based on an obscure use of the word that doesn't appear... anywhere anywhere. I can't even google it.

If you're not going to use the well-known "Baihu" on the white tiger guardian beast minion (when that's apparently the in-game context too), why would you use it where it, at any casual glance, seemingly doesn't belong?

Lots of words mean other things in other languages, and Subeta's full of semi-arbitrary names. It's not the intention of Subeta to refer to anything in the real world, particularly. If it doesn't correspond exactly to anything real, then that's good. In Subetaese that word doesn't mean what you think it means.
