I'll be buying a WiiU in the next week and I was wondering if anyone could suggest some good games? I'm already planning on getting Mario Cart 8 and Mario Maker. I'm open to any suggestions no matter the genre. Thanks.

Mario Kart 8 is hands down my favorite game to play on the WiiU. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was an excellent game and probably also one of my favorite titles ever.

Pikmin 3 is adorable and fun to play. Super Mario 3D World is great if you enjoy classic Mario style games. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was fun too. The nice part about these three is they were just made Nintendo Selects titles which means they're just $20 now. I'd recommend any of them.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is cute and fun if you enjoy puzzle games. It's a little short though.

A lot of people LOVE Splatoon. I haven't played it though because my internet is ridiculous and can't handle the online play that is required.

My husband enjoys Xenoblade Chronicles X, Super Smash Bros, and Pokken Tournament.

Splatoon is fantastic, and Pokken Tournament is really fun as well. I also really like Hyrule Warriors, and Xenoblade Chronicles X is pretty fun too, though the sheer amount of content and customization options can be a bit overwhelming if you're like me and tend to only play simpler RPGs. Wind Waker HD was also fun and pretty, but I had never played it before, and got the special wii u with it already pre-installed; I don't know if it's worth it if you've already played the original gamecube version.

Thank you both for the good suggestions. :) I've heard a lot of good things about Splatoon as well it'll definitely be on my list. Donkey Kong is also going on the short list.

I don't know much about the rest but I am going to check them out to see if anything strikes me.

Seconding Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong! They're so much fun.

I've also really enjoyed Hyrule Warriors. It's a great stress relief, just taking out huge hordes of enemies with your favorite character(s).

Fatal Frame V is also great if you like horror games, but you can only get it online, I believe. I don't think there any physical copies of it out.

Yoshi's Woolly World has really cute and fun platforming and collectibles, but the boss battles are... really redundant, sadly.
