The create a new pet page is kind of dated and takes forever to find the pet I'm looking for. How about a drop down menu and when you click on a pet it shows like a couple of color previews and a mini bio. Something other that what it is.

I feel like this was suggested somewhere before, lemme try to find it.

if I can't, I support it, it's not too user friendly.

I think just a small preview would be good. Maybe with a link to a larger image and bio? I can see why they would want a big picture for new users who haven't seen all the pets yet but for users who already know what they want it can be a bit of a hassle to go through every page.

Maybe make a selection option at the page: I don't know which species to pick vs: i know what i want.

I know what I want with a drop down of the species on the left half of the page, once selected you see the pet with a info blurb and maybe the lifelike dolls under need. And on the left under the dropdown a form to create a pet of said species.

And for those who don't know what they want: An alphabetic list of all species with images? Might be heavier to load but better than going through 10 pages of pets and then go like: "wait i prefer that elk like creature ... shit on what page was it?"

I agree that something needs to change. I hate using that page "oh i want a insert species" ... on what page is it? Did i overlook it? Where is it? whaa

Although I also like OP's idea about a description... staff put in all that effort on the Subetapedia. A little link to a Subetapedia article of the pet for newcomers might be nice. I know I've been on other pet sites, and the descriptions of the pets have made a difference on what I ended up picking as a newbie.

If they could even just do headshots of every species to load on one page would be nice. That way newbies who are interested in one can click and be brought to the full pet and some info about them. But also yes to a dropdown option as well.

Oh that create a pet page is horribly outdated. And clunky, and should be in alphabetical order instead of species-creation order. I think that's usually one of my biggest peeves about that page, the few times a year I end up using it.

Maybe the default pet wouldn't be the kumos if the page was more friendly.. and alphabetical.

I really like that too. Either a headshot, or scaled down pet images (like 100x100 instead of 200x200, for example).

Regarding the description.. I'd kinda like to see at least a tl;dr about the pet species + the size/weight specs (I always kinda liked that about neopets). The tl;dr could be really just a few sentences... the typical temperament of the species, and/or typical behavior (ie: This species is really active, be prepared to keep them busy and exercise constantly otherwise they'll drive themselves and you mad). Then they could link to the full subetapedia article, which could be a great gateway to getting newer users looking at all of the different pet species etc.

Also it'd be really cool if the create a pet link was located somewhere else in the world-- maybe the adoption center even? Like, "If you have something specific in mind, why not try the creation page?" or something like that (which, in hindsight, probably could use a name change... creation shop, if nothing else, with a cool NPC because who doesn't like NPCs?). This mostly comes from my pet page takes 50 years to load (exaggeration, shh) and I hate having to go there just for the link sometimes (especially if I'm mobile haha... which I typically am these days).

Not sure if you can read the blurbs but it is the first paragraph and I think the 3rd? one about their size. This is basically what I had in mind but obviously this can be made to look a billion times better. Also it is Alphabetical like you stated. However it requires staff to expedite their subetapedia for the other pets for this idea to come into fruition.

I like pretty much everything about your mock up. That's so much more appealing that what we currently have haha.

My only concern really is, yeah the fact that not all pets currently have subetapedia articles and I'd really hate for staff to release those without the pet dolls and/or feel like they have to rush and finish either of those in order for the creation page to be revamped.

Maybe they could just do really short blurbs/spoil pet sizes until the articles are released. I'm sure there's dozens of user's who'd be willing to remind staffers to update the pet's information if they end up forgetting (updating text wouldn't be too bad, I don't think).

Otherwise though, definitely love your mock up. Bonus points is this is another place to give details about pets (since newer users might not cross paths with the subetapedia articles until months after they join).

Yeah I agree it is more appealing and has more subeta lore to really encapsulate newer users. I wanted to put a link to the subetapedia in there but there was no like pretty link to it for me to cut and paste into it.

My concern is more really for the headshots. There are a lot of pets and I would still like some type of notation on limited ones or the neela for example so newbies know they exist. So instead of the adopt box populating a link to Calvin Blackmoon or the cash shop.

Your mockup looks great and is something I think a lot of new users would benefit from. For certain limited edition species, perhaps putting a little ! or star in their headshot to indicate that there's something peculiar about this pet, and the top of the description can say something along the lines of, "This is a rare species! If you're interested in adopting one, you should speak to [relevant NPC]." The NPC's name would link to Calvin Blackmoon for the Endeavor and Cadogre, Qazim for the Neela, and so on. For pets that involve a little more to get, like the Aeanoid, those could link to Emma/Esther. Whichever NPC it goes to would provide a quick explanation for how to get that pet. That way, a little more lore is added to the first-day experience.

The Bhakoru is the only pet I have a real concern about, since it's so limited compared to every other species. It could possibly link to Blake Steele (iirc; I was on hiatus during that plot), who might then say something like, "Ah, only a select few individuals have earned the privilege of creating/whatever a Bhakoru. You should try asking around, and see if anyone can help." That'll then link to the forums, which could encourage community involvement. That said, I think we need more opportunities in the future to get the ability to create a Bhakoru, but that's another topic for another day. : P

I like everything you said. That is what I was thinking. Let me see if I can cut and paste together another mock up for those special pets. I know has a board in the adoption center for that reason in regards to the Bhakoru. Also the bumbus is another I can think of. Sadly I don't think any of the special ones are listed yet in subetapedia? I just took a screenshot of it basically.
