Today I decided to play minecraft since it's been about a month since the last time I played. I didn't know that the newest version had come out until my game was already updating.
So new update means I can't get on the server I usually play on until they get everything updated there, and I can't be arsed to go back to the previous version, especially since I read that if you play your world in the current version, then go back to a previous version it will go corrupt or something?
So because I couldn't get on multiplayer I tried singleplayer to see what was new. (Why I now can't downgrade).
Seemed normal at first, I was in my house with my dogs and I heard a zombie so I went to the window to see it and I somehow pushed my dog towards the wall, where it then got stuck in the wall and suffocated to death. Fantastic.
I went outside to test out that new gliding thingy(?) and my world was glitching like crazy. Blocks were spazzing out and rapidly changing to every block in the game. Now, I've actually been experiencing this same glitch for like, a year, so that isn't new. It's just extremely irritating. It's basically this glitch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2pc-FJf5XY
note: It was advised to turn off VBO in the options, which worked for a little while until it started happening again.
The new thing that I witnessed was mobs having the same type of visual glitch. I tried looking around to see if anyone else had this issue but I found nothing. I'm not on the computer I play minecraft on so I can't take screenshots. Basically I saw, well, I think it was a skeleton. It looked.... I really don't know how to describe it, like a very corrupted version of a skeleton?
I started a new world to play with 1.9 and see if the glitches were still there. They were. I found the corrupted skeletons and pushed one around in creative mode until it suddenly turned invisible and it looked like a floating bow only. I turned around and saw another corrupted creature. I think it was a witch? It was seriously unidentifiable, it looked like how the testificate arms are crossed and meet together, but purple and just stacked high on top of itself? So it was like a stack of purple testificate arms making witch noises ???
I closed the game after that. After some research I found out that the graphics card I have (AMD) is the same kind of graphics card that is notorious for causing the world visual glitch. I don't know if it's also responsible for the weird mob visual glitches as well. And I don't know what I can do, since I'm really dumb when it comes to computers... I think it was advised to go to the drivers website and download a new version? Which I didn't even know was a possible thing to do. I've never done it before and don't know how it works, or if it will work? (I got this computer secondhand... will it still work?)
Why are my mobs glitched out? Is this a 1.9 thing? Is my minecraft corrupt? Will downloading an update from my drivers website fix the problem?
I don't play Minecraft, but it's always a good idea to update your graphics card driver if you are experiencing performance issues with the card. If you've never updated it, it would definitely be an option worth exploring. You should be able to download and install the driver just fine, even if you did not originally purchase the computer. The driver is essentially a piece of software that tells your computer how to communicate with the graphics card. Drivers are provided for free by the card manufacturers.
It's important that you install the correct driver for the model of card you have. If you don't know what model you have, AMD should have a tool you can use that will detect your card model and select the correct download for you. They have a pretty nice article about updating drivers with a link to the auto detect tool here:

No problem, and good luck! (heh heh). If you're nervous about it you can always create a Windows Restore point before you do the install, that way you can roll back if something goes wrong.
I got my drivers updated and everything worked out great! I checked for the glitches in minecraft and the creatures are back to normal appearance and I didn't see the spazzing world graphics either. Thanks again, you're the best! <3
Is there a certain frequency that I should do updates with my drivers from now on?
Awesome, I'm glad it worked out so well. :D As far as regular updates, it's really a matter of personal preference. I have a Nvidia card, and I get a popup in my system tray every time they push an update, so I usually do it every time one is released, although not always right away. If you are not having any performance issues, it's not really necessary to update every time. If AMD publishes release notes with their updates like Nvidia does, you could check those and see if the update is worth installing. If the notes say something like "General bug fixes and performance improvements" that would be a good update to install. But if it only says things like "Improved optimization for XYZ Game You Don't Play" it's probably safe to skip.
