I'm finally getting around to reading these books and, to be quite honest with you, I can't remember the last time I fangirled over a book series like this. Except for when I read The Lord of The Rings, of course. I just finished the second book, Insurgent, and while I was frusterated the whole time I was reading it, I still thought it was a good book. Is there anyone else who read these or is currently reading them? If so, what'd you think about it? Did the ending live up to your expectations? I'm starting the third book today, but I already know it has something to do with a dystopian world, that some main characters get killed, that Caleb never redeems himself, etc etc so don't worry about spoling anything for me. Also, have any of you read the stories about Four? I'm buying it on Amazon soon.

I absolutely ADORE the series... for the most part. I loved Divergent, I liked Insurgent, but I was kind of bored by Allegiant. It kind of felt like the Hunger Games trilogy to me in that the first two books were awesome, and the third one just got way too political for me and I lost interest. I will also never forgive Caleb. Ugh.

I'm a huuuuuuge Four fangirl. Guh. That being said, the book Four is actually, IMO, crap. I wish the author had just stuck with the trilogy, because Four's book feels really slap dash and like she just needed to give him more of an emotional side but she really overshot it. I felt Tobias was really out of character for more than half of his book. Who knows, though - you might love it!

Yeah, I know what you mean. The series as a whole was great, but the books went downhill. I loved Divergent, I liked Insurgent, and I just kinda dealt with Allegiance. I finished Allegiance last night and I was blubbering like a baby for like 20 minutes after the end. Tris really didn't have to and shouldn't have died. That was a terrible ending.

Yeah I like Four, but I'm not gonna talk about him too much because I'll sound like a hormonal thirteen year old seeing Johnny Depp for the first time, lmao. The book isn't here yet but I'm eager to read it. I know some people have complained on Goodreads about it not being good, but lots of people love it. So we'll see!

I loved Divergent! I could not put it down. I read Insurgent right after. I saw the movie Divergent and it was all right, but it kind of killed it for me. I do not know. I just appreciated the book so much more. I still need to read Allegiant.

I do not mean the movie was bad. It was all right. It is just hard to compete with a book that is so good.

I agree with you. The books have, so far, been way better than the movies. Insurgent, the movie, heavily changes things that happen in the book and I really disliked that, but it was still a good movie.

I have not seen the movie Insurgent. The first movie deterred me from it. I love Shailene Woodley. I think she is absolutely amazing, but the movie just does not compare to the book for me.

I know what you mean. Yeah, I like Shailene Woodley too. She played the part very well, and she's just a good actress in general. Very pretty, even with short hair.

Just a heads up though, reading Allegiant might ruin it for you. Lots of people on Goodreads give the book one star because of the ending. It's sad. Allegiant, for me, was already frusterated, but I think it was because I was so caught up in the world and the factions.

Is it hard to put down at least? Or is it kind of slow? I remember I had trouble throwing myself into it, but it may have just been because of the movie.

I didn't think I was going to like Shailene in the fault in our stars, but she did really well.

It's definitely hard to put down. I read it in two days! I couldn't keep my eyes off it, haha.

I felt like Tris' death at the end was a lot like Prim's death in the Hunger Games with how unnecessary it was. Like... didn't have to happen, didn't add any kind of meaning to the story in the end. I guess maybe the authors' intentions were, in both cases, to make a commentary about the collateral damage of war and of how both triumphs were almost pyrrhic?

That's all it really could be, honestly. There was no other use for it, but I suppose it did go along with Tris's personality. Once a Stiff, always a Stiff, right? She gave her life for the only family she had left whenever she felt like she had nothing left. But it was mostly because she thought Caleb was sorry and

I was gonna go on this big rant about how it maybe made sense, but it still didn't. Her risking her life made sense, but her death didn't. Other than your explanation of collateral damage, I can't really think of anything else.

My favorite series ever. Clearly lol.

I'm one of the few people who disagrees with the fandom and likes Allegiant and it's ending. (no joke i cried for at least 3 hrs after I finished it.) Her entire story arc was about sacrifice, so it wouldn't have made any sense for Caleb to have gone in the weapons lab instead of her, especially after she saved him from Erudite. Now, yes, she could have still sacrificed and not died, but IMO that would have cheapened it even more. But I do get where people come from. It sucks so hard to get attached to a character and just have them up and die on you.

Buuuuut, now we can all be 14 year old girls and poor baby Tobias until the end of time lol.

I loved the movies, and I'm stoked for Allegiant. It looks like it makes up for the semi-mess that Insurgent was. (But I also understand that damn book had about 99 plots going on, so it was a bit of a dick to adapt and they did what they could.) Plus, staring at Theo James for 2 hours isn't exactly rough. :P

If you like fan fiction, I have a handful of really good ones (one of which is a completely alternate third book that is beyond amazing) I can recommend. :D

Oh I definitely agree that the ending made sense. It's just who she was, but it sucks that she had to die. She was my favorite character, because I see in her who I want to be. I too cried a lot after the ending.

Haha, I know right? We can all mourn for Tobias for a long time now. I kept wondering if eventually he would end up getting with that girl who seemed to like him. I believe her name was Cara, but I could be wrong. It would make sense in the future, or if someone wrote it as a fandom.

Yeah I've been watching for when the movie is going to come to our theatre. I'm pretty excited about it, but I know I'll be blubbering like a baby at the end and that'll be embarrassing. I wonder what is going to change in the movie, though, because the movies have heavily changed the storyline.

Oh I'd love to read them! I've been thinking about writing some myself because I have a few ideas I'd like to try out. I'm just not sure where I'd post them or who the fanbase would be. Do you happen to know any roleplaying forums dedicated to the series?

FYI, there is a fourth movie, and we're all dying to know wtf it will be about. Instead of going with Allegiant pt 1 and 2, they changed the last movies name to Ascendent. From the looks of things, I'd say a good 80% of book Allegiant is in movie Allegiant, so that leaves a lot of new material for the last movie. I'm basically dying to find out not only where Allegiant cuts off, but what the hell the last movie will be about.

I don't know of any roleplaying, just fanficiton. AO3 and Fanfiction.net are the most popular. I'll send you a PM with some story names. :)

Oh really? I haven't been keeping up with movie information, so I ddn't know that. Just like when The Hobbit came out, I hadn't been keeping up with the movie information so I didn't know it was going to be turned into 3 parts and was completely stunned when the ending of the first movie in theatres wasn't the ending, haha. That'll be interesting, though!

Thank you!

Loved the Divergent series. Me and my pal are fan and we agreed that the third book is a puremistake. It has nothing to do with the death tho, it's just how it was written (seemed anti-climatic and OOC).

The movies are alright. I find myself enjoying them, but the storylines are mostly changed (but then again, the books are full of plot-twist). I had no idea that the series will extend to a fourth movie? Seems weird but I will take it. I like Divergent because it's not only focusing on romance. Also? Glad to see that a main character can have PTSD and shows proper symptoms.
