I have a distinct memory of a book from my childhood:

It was an old style, highly detailed fairy tale book with tiny habitats and fairies to go with (about 1970's-1980's), no words, just illustrations and I remember it being about 11"x17", hardcover and having a green cover. Google has turned up utterly nothing.

Help. XD This is driving me mad.

Was it something like Andrew Lang's Fairy Books without the actual stories? Old Book Illustrations may be useful in your search too.

Not quite what I was looking for but some of those books look like wonderful reads anyways. Especially Lang's.

They are! c:

Hmm, it sounds like an offline search could be more fruitful. Do you have any good librarians or book sellers in your area? This sounds like something a specialist could be really helpful about. I'd try physically digging around places that have antique art books too if possible. Good luck finding your book.

Did you try any of the tips from this site? http://www.oldchildrensbooks.com/looking-for-a-book

They link to a bunch of book sites with advanced search options.

Also, did you try variances on the spelling of fairy (faerie, faery, fay, fae)?

Were the "habitats" pop-ups, or images? Were the faeries paper, cardstock, stickers, dolls, or what?

Does this woman's book seem to be in a similar style? She has tons of them, including one older one that I can't find anywhere called Flower Fairy adventures: http://www.gardengadgetzone.com/fairies/ She also has a popup book called Fairy Places Pop-Up, though I haven't been able to find a picture of the inside. http://www.amazon.com/Fairy-Places-Pop-up-Little-Fairies/dp/0723240396/ref=la_B000APU0RI_1_38?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1452173924&sr=1-38&refinements=p_82%3AB000APU0RI

Here is a green covered book by the first author, from 1983 http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=8448669047&searchurl=yrh%3D1985%26yrl%3D1965%26bi%3Dh%26ds%3D30%26bx%3Don%26pics%3Don%26sortby%3D17%26tn%3DFairy%26recentlyadded%3Dall

By detailed, did you mean realistic, photograph-like, or more stylized, and artistic? Did the cover have a big picture, or did it have gilt designs and patterns?

I would primarily search through abebooks.com if I were you. Old and out of print books are their specialty. I'd try all of the spelling of the title, but if you can think of any other words that might have been in the title, that would help narrow it down a lot...

Also, you can search by years, so I'd start with the narrowest chunk of time you think it's probably from.

If the cover only had gilt, it could be this book: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=4287564849&searchurl=yrh%3D1985%26yrl%3D1965%26bi%3Dh%26ds%3D30%26bx%3Don%26pics%3Don%26sortby%3D17%26tn%3DFairy%2520NOT%2520tales%26recentlyadded%3Dall The version listed here is blue, not green, but it's a possibility. It's an illustrated guide to the fairy world.

It has some words on it, but the emphasis is definitely on pictures, which you can see in some of the other copies that sellers have up. The newer cover seems to be white, but in older copies, green.
