SPOILER ALERT, OK DON'T READ THIS IF YOU'RE PLANNING ON WATCHING AKAME OR IF YOU HAVEN'T -COMPLETELY- FINISHED THE SERIES YET.

so if you've watched akame ga kill, i'm just wondering how you felt about it. personally, i love gory anime, and was all for all the cutting in half and things like that. as far as the action, the show was phenomenal and definitely kept me interested. but on more technical topics, how do you guys feel about the character development? i felt like they relied too heavily on backstory. don't get me wrong, backstory is great and all, but i think they just didn't spend enough time showing character development in the present day. too much of it was "oh this is their personality and they're like this because they grew up poor/watched their family die/whatever the backstory" and there wasn't any actual like...watching the characters grow and learn. besides maybe tatsumi a little bit, but i dunno. i wasn't very impressed with like the development structure. the anime was great though, really happy i watched it and it was good enough to finish in a two-day binge.

bottom line i guess is, if you've watched akame ga kill, what are your thoughts? how about that gore? and the fact there's no plot armor for any of the characters? general opinions or canons?
