I'm just curious if anyone's doing Nano this year. I'm going to be using an idea I recently came up with and basically making it up as I go. Should be a lot of fun. XD
I'll be working on it as well, not sure if there will be but sometimes there ends up being a thread with word wards and such. I've been planning out my novel for the last month.
Good luck to everybody doing Nano this year! I don't think I'll be doing it myself. I don't really have any ideas and I don't feel like trying to fly by the seat of my pants.
I'm doing it this year. I have very little prep done, which I hate! I have been so busy with work lately that NaNo snuck up on me this year!
Day 1 down, 29 to go! :D
I'm doing NaNo this year... I've got the start of a plan in place. (I spent way too much time trying to come up with secondary character names... I might use some of the ones I found but I'm gonna end up using abbreviations for their role in the story for now.)
This is my first time trying to do it properly so I'm not sure how it's going to go. I've already decided that anything I actually write in November, including short guideline-type notes or purposeful backstory, is fair game for the word count. So far I've got 280 words, most of which is actually part of the "Opening Scene"... Hooray for me! LOL Now I just need 1,387 more to meet today's goal. o_O
Nice, I've done a little planning but been having trouble keeping my mind off other stories. XD
Thank you! Last year I did quite a bit by the seat of my pants and I loved it. I was always a planner before. This year I've done minimal outlining, I'm just gonna write and see where the characters take me. XD
Yeah, it kinda snuck up on me too, in past years I would be planning months in advance. Hopefully my idea will work out. XD
Oh, I count any writing that I do regard the story towards my words. I sometimes jump around, like if I have an idea that should have happened before, I'll add it even if it doesn't mesh perfectly. XD
Yay, I'm glad there are other people writing too! I won't be the only one losing my mind. XD
I'm going to try to :P Though I'm pretty sure school is going to take away time from me and the story I outlined is still kinda up in the air. But I'll be happy if I get more than 25k!

: I'm doing NaNoWriMo again for the 8th year and my personal goal is a Double Nano ( 100,000 words ). I've done it twice before.
I recommend a dedicated writing program like Scrivner for doing Nano because it is pretty straight forward and doesn't have so many bells and whistles that get in the way of the actual writing like Word does. I also recommend a basic outline. I use the following format:
this happened...
then this happened....
then this happened....
then this happened...
I only write out a phrase or two for each instance and that way I don't have to worry about fancy outline formats like roman numerals and letters and such nonsense. It just helps me plan out a scene.
Sometimes I sketch out a scene with a pencil so that I can see it in my mind's eye and I can describe it.
Just some random thoughts.
Oh, and this post counts toward my word count today... ( giggle )
This is my sixth year doing Nano, but my first year doing such little prep. I keep joking that I have a handful of half-baked characters running around in a half-baked world trying to achieve a half-baked goal. I figure I'll be pretty stuck by about Wednesday :)
[tot=layure]
oh no I'm quite sure I'm already losing my mind, why I always decided to do this when I have finals and exams I do no know. I think maybe its the madness that excites me far more than I understand.
If anyone is interested in word wars and what not please smail me, I will check back in here several times a day I am sure. This week may end up getting a little ify since I have three exams this week. Go me.
Any goal is good, it's trying that matters. ^.^
Wow, I've never come close to a double Nano, that's awesome. Good luck this year!
When I get stuck sometimes I'll try using a random generator to give me some ideas. If you (or anyone else) was interested I know an awesome site for them. XD
I love the challenge, I work full time and have other obligations, I write when I can. And sometimes lose sleep.
Anyone else ever fall asleep sitting up with their hands on the keyboard? XD
I may do some word wars once I get going a little more. I also really love the Word Sprints they have on Twitter. It's the only reason I even have an account. XD
- I'm doing it again this year! Starting like I do every year! Behind! I'm used to playing the catch up game, so I should be fine. Working on an old Nano story this year, hoping to make it flow better and to have better characterization. Have you done Nano before?
- Any repeat nanoers in the ping group this year? Come hang out with us and support each other!
Well, you're not too behind. I usually fall behind during the week and catch up on weekends. XD Yup, I started in 2011, however I'd didn't make the 50k that year. That was the year of natural disasters for my area and a massive freak snowstorm hit a couple days before Halloween. I was without power or water for a week. I still tried to write in a notebook but I fell too far behind. I've won every year since then though. ^.^
The more, the merrier. XD So what genre is everyone writing? I typically write fantasy but the way this year's story is set up, I may end up briefly in other areas.
I'm thinking about it. I have a story already, or at least an idea, but I need to do the outline better if I do decide to go for it. I've gotten back into writing fanfiction (don't judge me too harshly) so I know I can write more than 6k words a day if I so please (and am duly inspired).
The way I now do outlines gives me a better idea overall of what I want to happen in the story, and then each chapter is outlined briefly, so what I want each chapter to accomplish is clear. It's MUCH easier to write that way.

Apparently the story idea I picked this year is a winner. I've already made my goal for today, but I don't want to stop writing which is a really good sign. Unfortunately, I do need to stop for the evening. I need to at least study some for my two exams tomorrow as well as probably get some dinner in me.
Yay for meeting goal two days in a row, usually I'm behind already and haven't written a word by day three. I'm going to make it this year if its the last thing I do.
I'm actually wondering if maybe the stress of life being super busy is better for writing, I think maybe it gives me something to procrastinate with either way its going quite well.
Super busy day today but I'm going to try and get at least a bit written down, I really don't want to play catch up this month!
Good luck to everyone doing Nanowrimo this year! :)
I finished yesterday right on track, but I am a bit worried about today. I got some writing done this morning then real life interrupted. Still need to get just under 1400 words in before midnight.
Comes in with cages and cages of plot bunnies Yep I'm doing Nanowrimo but my plot bunnies derailed my novel from day one but that is fine. I'm liking this story so far :)
