What does the Extend Layer button mean?

I have accidentally gotten seven items in a layer in the v3 today, and that particular layer now has a button to the right of it that is different from the usual "buy layer" to "extend layer".

basically extend the time limit of one of the bought layers. ie you bought one layer and it lasts x months, to extend it you buy another. hopefully thats clear? ;;

do you happen to know how long you can Extend? Because right now they're pretty cheap and I figure I could easily extend it out a few years and not worry about running out of room any time soon.
