I've only just recently started to get serious about my art and made a website showcasing some of my stuff (the site is still under construction but you can see a bunch of scans from my sketchbook). http://mekaila.weebly.com I was wondering if there is any market for physical art and if so how I would go about selling it. I would really really like to get into digital art but I don't have any of the tools or the knowledge of what tools I'd need to get started with that, so right now it feels like physical art is all I have to offer. I guess I was just wondering if you guys think my kind of art is something that people would even be interested in haha, also if you guys have any knowledge of getting started with digital art (what tools to get, programs to use, etc.) I would greatly appreciate it, thank you! :)
Your art style is very cute! I could see a lot of people on the Art Market board being interested in your work. :) Digitally I recommend getting Paint Tool SAI (it's about $60 but usually you can find the older version for free) and a small drawing tablet which will probably cost around %60-$100 for a nice one. Lots of people only use SAI so don't be concerned with obtaining Photoshop right now!
I love your style! :D I'm not too sure about selling physical pieces, but I know a lot of people still like scanned traditional media commissions.
In terms of programs and tools, I'd suggest a Wacom tablet (you don't need a fancy or expensive one!) and Clip Studio Paint/Manga Studio 5. CSP is a lot like SAI, but it has WAY more tools and it's a lot more flexible.
If you'd like to play around with something like Photoshop, GIMP is completely free. It's not as powerful or as easy to use as Photoshop, but it's still fantastic for editing your work! If you'd like something that mimics traditional media, try ArtRage. There's a free and paid version of it. As for something a little more 'out there', Black Ink is a LOT of fun, but it's expensive.
Actually there might be a market for physical art. Had been asked to ship things before. But also people do still buy scanned traditional art as well.
As for digital MyPaint is a great program and it is absolutely free.Free software that works like sai = win. You can find it up for grabs with just one search. Just make sure to grab the latest update.
if you're going to sell watercolor artwork, i'd invest in water color paper instead of sketch book paper. it will make your finish product look even better. :)
I'm sorry, your topic made me laugh because I've been on the opposite end of the spectrum. I've been looking to BUY physical art for over a year, and most people I've found only want to do digital. So yes, there's still people out there looking to get physical art.
