I just started playing yesterday and already LOVE this game. I played another animal training game a few years back and was hooked on it for many years. Was actually looking it back up when someone on another website suggested subeta! So far it's really great, but is taking some getting the hang of. I've noticed there are a lot of members who have been here for 5-7 years! I feel like a total newbie, but I'm trying to learn the in's and out's.
A little about me. My name really is Brandy, you can call me HPB for short. I'm 28 years old. I have two kitties, Pip and Ah-me. I live near the beach in Florida. I used to train alligators and work with Florida panthers along with a plethora of other animals, and I'm always up for talking about that if you have any questions, lol. I'm married to a wonderful nerd who I've known for 10 years, and wouldn't have it any other way! We will be married for 1 year on Halloween!!! Plus, we just found out we are expecting a mini-human!!

Hello! I'm Sam, I go by Sleeb most places. :) I'm 29, I have two kitties(Kiku & Roe), a doggy(Thistleberry) and a large male human I call husband. We want no mini-humans, but congrats on yours! We just got married in August, been together since '05.
Hi ! It's always good to see mingle with other drinking age humans! Congratulations on capturing your large male human! Those are always nice! ;)

Hi HPB! I'm ELeni from Mexico, near Texas. I'm 30. Congratulations!
Welcome to Subeta! I can't say I've ever heard the term 'train alligators'. What sort of things can you train an alligator to do, and for what purpose?
Feel free to ask if you've any questions :D

Hi! I actually just moved back to Florida from Texas! lol.
Thank you! Where I worked we were an educational nature park, so our alligators were trained to walk up to us on command, some even knew their names, then we would have the open their mouth so the kids on the other side of the fence could see how large it was and see the flap in the back that stops them from drowning if they open their mouth underwater. Then we would have them clamp down in a way that makes a specific popping sound so we could talk about the amount of pressure different size alligators can produce with their jaws. This also demonstrated the way that they open their mouth is the same way we do, jaw down, so to eat, they rock their heads from side to side. If they didn't, they would just be dragging their jaws on the ground all the time trying to catch food. That is why the wives tale about running zig zag to get away from an alligator is wrong, because they eat in a zig zag pattern, you'd just be helping them out. Then we would feed them 3 times, once on land, once in the water, and once making them jump out of the water, so that kids can see how they eat and move when they are hungry and how high they can jump out of the water. Then the alligator would just sit there politely while we explain their skin, bones, eyes, special eyelids so they see underwater, and hidden ears.

That's super interesting, I didn't realise alligators could be trained too! :)

for sure check out all those links that sent you. They will clarify everything, and of course you can always ask on the Forums if you are stuck. Your life sounds fascinating. The most interesting thing I ever do is scuba dive when my overprotective partner "allows" me to. We have a golden named Beau, 3 cats and my horse. When are you due and are you partial to boy or girl baby?
Hey fellow Floridian! Which coast?
And welcome to Subeta!
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and well wishes.
You're right! I'm already addicted! Scuba sounds awesome, now that I'm back in FL I want to try to learn to surf, but scuba sounds like it would be so much fun as well! As for my mini human, I regret to say that at my ultrasound late last week we found no heartbeat and a lack of fetal growth. We are debating trying again or not, but for now we are just going to wait for at least a year before making up our minds. We plan to spend that year filling our time with roller coasters and beer :) (but we were both hoping for a little girl) By chance! I knew a girl through a long list of channels and she was doing volunteer work with animals at a small nature park here in FL. She got me on as a volunteer at first, then I worked my way up over about 4 years. I worked with everything from scorpions and tarantulas all the way up to wolves, 7 ft. burmese pythons, Florida panthers, and adolescent and adult alligators (and plenty of things in between). It was an amazing job but it didn't offer any benefits and the pay was minimum wage + tips, so I eventually moved on. I now work with animatronic animal rides at a mall :) I'm on the East Coast near the space center :) You?

Nice! I'm in the same area, actually! About 30-40 min south of the space center.
I guess I got really lucky at the time, I was only working part time and the nature center was totally able to work around that. The only "requirement" was that you came to a class they taught every Thursday night.

(I love how your user-name says "Hello" for me!) Welcome!
Wow, florida panthers! so awesome, I didn't know there were any of those left. I see Pumas on occasion here in the Sierra Nevadas, but they are so shy of people that it's a real rare treat.
Never imagined you could train an alligator either. I have wild ravens that will sometimes eat out of my hand, and a black bear who will wait patiently while I clean and refill my water garden pond so she can soak in it, but it's them who have me trained...not the other way round.
Booger soaking
Hi ! Thank you!
Thank you! There are a few Florida panthers left, but most have been crossbred with pumas or mountain lions, which isn't horrible but also isn't good because then they sometimes lose the webbing between their toes and wind up sinking in the Florida marsh or swamp areas :( Poor babies. We had 2 black bears where I worked, but they had never been worked with by trainers, so we just fed them and kept their cages clean. I used to talk to them (Boris and Natasha), but they didn't have much to say back, lol. As for the ravens, that's AWESOME! :D Animals train us so well! :) My kitties have me trained!

Welcome to Subeta, Brandy! It's a really great site. I migrated here from Neopets and don't regret that move XD The best thing is the community around here, although I've yet to really get involved :D Your life seriously sounds fascinating. Training alligators? Truly awesome. Congrats on your mini-human!
