I was getting ready to start making my first profile when I realized that the artist had to be credited.

The problem is that, for a lot of the art I have for these pets, it was made several years ago and i'm really not sure who the artist is! Even an overlay I have no longer has proper credit because the user that made it changed account names and I have no idea where they are!

It's not like I can go back and review my forum topics either. Topics on the forums just get deleted.

In other words, this has lead to a very awkward situation in which I own the concept for the pet I own but I can't actually use art drawn of them for my pet profile. This gets even more frustrating when factoring in the fact that I spent a LOT of real money on this art. Like...at least a hundred dollars. I suffer from anxiety and this has brought me into a state of near meltdown.

Edit: I just saw that my inbox has a whole bunch of messages in it, probably from past artist discussion! I'm going to go through it soon! Maybe I can actually recover some names!

I would file a ticket to staff explaining the situation. It is a pretty messed up one, but you still get a chance for help or a reccomendation. Good luck!

Thanks! I did actually file a ticket but i'm pretty sure what they are going to tell me is some variant of "We can't make exceptions to the rule." Still, hearing that has helped me calm down a little.

You know, I'd love to hear the answer about this. I think it's actually an important point. I don't think it's really acceptable that we be expected to chase our artists down so we know who/where they are for eternity, so there has to be something logical that can be applied to this.

I'll definitely let you know what they tell me! I think I understand where they are coming from. Art is stolen all over the internet all the time! All the same, if you commission a piece of a character that is your design and are told you can't use it because you forgot what artist did the piece years ago or simply can't find them, it's a little bit ridiculous.

yah if you can't find the artist for a piece of art you have and want to use on a profile, you may have to scrap that art (I mean not use it in your profile - not delete it) from your profile. Unfortunately the rules can be a major bummer but it's for our protection, really. in a way..

One thing I find very, very helpful in events like this is to save the file with the username. Like if I drew you something save it as like, Liore_Subeta_01 and then at least you have a starting point for finding your artist! You can always see if staff can find their old username, or ask on the forums if anyone knows.

Maybe also try a reverse image search? Maybe you can find a tumblr/dA that they posted it to??

I have to find a few Artists now as well, I noticed a few days ago that at least one changed their name, but I'm sure they will be easy to find since they're pretty active. :)

Also, asking Staff is a good option, thangs for the tip! If I search an Artist I cannot find anymore I might try this! :D

- I had an instance in which the artwork I was using for a pet profile was an artist I couldn't for the life of me remember. I put a little blurb on my pet's profile about not knowing who did it, he still won the Spotlight. I also ended up finding the artist! They saw my pet and went hey, I did that!!

Always save the artwork using the user's name :/
