Are you someone who loves cooking, baking, or food in general? Then you're in the right place!
As an aspiring chef, I'm always looking for new ideas to use in the kitchen. I would like a place for people to share their recipes and techniques, hence Bitchin' for the Kitchen!
Time to get the ball rolling! Some ideas for the cult: -It doesn't matter how active you are. The majority of us have busy lives (myself included), and I don't want to kick anyone out for not being able to fulfill an attendance quota. -Outside forum. -Recipe dumps. -Baking contests: thinking of something like the cake contest that Subeta did for their 10th anniversary. -Tutorials on basics. -Lots of pictures and videos. -Gush about your favorite food or gag over your least favorite food. -A side place for general chit chat. -Anything else you can think of!
If interested, please ping me!

i like cooking :) not great or have many options but i like it. haha. love to see any new recipe that fit my cheap lifestyle.
- Yay! :D I'm full of cheap recipes, considering how I've been pretty poor most of my life. Right now, the challenge is to make one new recipe a week on the tight budget my fiance and I are on.
I'm not sure how many more people are interested in this cult, but I'll be happy to send you some ideas. I usually don't record measurements as I can eyeball amounts. But, I can try to if you want.
i don't measure too. i just add as i feel right. of course the first few are garbage. haha.
i don't usually go buy things needed to cook specific recipe. i just bought bunch of things, then just go from there. so basically i ate almost the same thing until the next shopping.
i would love simple and cheap recipe. the so called recipe on the budget i check online usually not so cheap or easy. i usually go with soup since it is easy and taste better over time. plus i can leave it on the stove to play games :P
got any on pancake, fritters or any flour based recipe? the one that use stove, not oven, i don't have oven.
- Okay, that's good you don't measure either. XD Yeah, I just buy whatever is on sale and then use those ingredients for stuff throughout the week.
It feels likes most people who make the recipes on a budget online don't really understand tight budgets and don't know how to cook with only a few ingredients. What I like to do is take recipes and improvise.
A few days ago, I made bacon honey pancakes. It was about less than $1 per 3 pancakes??? I don't know. I had everything already.
-A box of pre made pancake mix (this was about $2 at Walmart) -Bacon (I got 16 pieces for $3.50) -Honey ($5, but lasts a while)
sound lovely drool i had never made pancake with meat before. gotta try tomorrow!
unfortunately for me, pancake mix cost 4 times than simple flour. so i usually just bought flour. and i use blender to mix it so it become fluffy without using baking soda :P
I think a cooking cult would be awesome! I'm not super awesome at making my own recipes, but I love collecting recipes, trying new things, and learning. =O
- Ah, I see. And, using a blender as a mixer... I should try that when I make pancakes from scratch!
- Woot! If this cult doesn't take off, I'll at least have a thread for recipes, so I'll make sure to ping you. :D
you really should try it :) now i only make pancake using blender.
have you try banana pancake? it is nice. blend the pancake mixture and mash/cut your banana separately. then mix them later before cooking. that way , you get chunks of banana while eating that will surprise your mouth. i use sweet banana and bland pancake mixture.
you and me both! but i never follow any recipe to the letter due to lack of ingredients. just a lot of error until i get something i can tolerate :P
Hello everyone!
I have an idea for a cooking cult. Maybe the cult could have a food related pet as a mascot. I always see cakes, cookies and chocolate when I see a sweetheart colored pet!
: I haven't joined a cult before, but this sounds like something I'd feel very comfortable with! I cook every day for my husband and me, so I'm always looking for new recipes and inspirations. (Haha, I love to cook and he loves to eat. Perfect match.) And if you are interested, I can share some German recipes with you guys ;-) I also love baking. Especially things that are easy, but delicious.
A cooking cult sounds fantastic! Might be fun to try featured ingredients or something too!
Lately my favorite thing to make has been roasted veggies (and quiche with the leftovers!).
Here we are... Now you inspired me to create a recipe related pet :D Also uploaded my first recipe. You can find it under "Sweet".
yeah we are getting audience :) hey and
love your recipe Kassy! maybe i'll try to fry it. i'm not much of a cook like you guys. all i have is an electric cooker :P haha. so any baked recipe i usually try to "bake from the bottom" and it always burnt.
i currently making effort to eat healthy and cheap. all i have right now is just oats, eggs, fruits, vegetables, and occasional pancake and fish. anything fun i can do with them?
oh i also found this website thekitchn.com. best cooking website ever! a lot of cool tips. i'm making ice cream from banana tomorrow!
Electric cooker? Like a slow cooker, or one of those portable electric ranges? I'm sure there's alternate recipes that would work great in them!
Oooh, if you've got eggs and basic pancake ingredients (flour, milk, etc), you might be able to make a quiche! Just make a basic pie crust (or alternately, shred some potatoes and mix em with egg and flower if you don't like pie crust), bake it a bit, put whatever veggies and meats you want, then pour in a mixture of egg and milk. Cook til it sets! If you're worried about it burning, you don't have to pre-bake the crust; that'll give you a little more leeway.
And thekitchn is a great site. My personal favorite recipes right now are on Foodspin. It's a cooking blog, with the majority of recipes done by Albert Burneko. Simple, easy, and his writing is hilarious! And his pot roast recipe is to die for. I make it in my slow cooker.
Thank you! Do you know the 2 ingredients pancakes? Just mash a banana and mix it with two eggs. Then fry in a pan. They are great with oats and fruits on top. With a hint of honey it's even better!
- Banana pancakes... Stares at hoard of bananas Welp, I know what I'm making for breakfast some time soon. ;)
Ooooh, peanut butter would make a great topping! Some jelly too.
- Ha, you and your husband are a great match. XD
I'm liking the idea of a pet mascot! You have Sugar and Spice. Hmmm...
The German recipe sharing gives me an idea. How about a regional food section?
- Oooh, featured ingredients! I wonder if some of these ingredients could turn into a contest?
Nice username by the way. :D
& everyone else:
I've created a ping group for this cult.
How exciting! I've never been in a ping group before!
I love your ideas, everyone :)
[edit] Here are some ideas for a name. Just brainstorming here :)
Name Ideas
i have induction cooker and a blender, which i highly utilize. finally manage to "bake" dough in a pan using induction cooker!! turns out my mistake is i didn't coat the dough with flour. next will be homemade pizza!
i don't think i can make quiche though. maybe if i cook them separately i can.
slow cooking is the best. it taste good effortlessly. and the meat is so tender.
i love pancake with surprise filling like banana etc. the flavor just explode in my mouth. people eat pancake with toppings? i usually eat them while cooking :P by the time i'm done cooking, only one or two left uneaten.
I am terrible at coming up with names, but I'll try and think of something.
Oh man, induction cookers are awesome! I drink a lot of tea, and you can boil water much faster on those. And quiche is just as tasty without the crust, in my opinion. You can try it that way? Although it would technically be a Spanish tortilla...
Slow cooking is wonderful. The only downside is waking up crazy early in order to have it done for dinnertime.
i know right?! they cook super fast and doesn't hog the electricity either. but it is hard to control temperature. it is either not hot enough or you burn it. i think i can cook them separately.
i don't own a slow cooker but use the induction cooker to sort of slow cook it. i really like how the taste elevate after long hours.
today i bought roselle to make juice. i make a mistake by blending it instead of boiling it. it does taste good eventually after i let it sit for a few hours. i read that it is a good additional flavor to tea. haven't try that yet.
