According to the Subetapedia, Ruben/the Gate Keeper is "a handsome, reptilian creature, though of a species yet unnamed."
But I think he and the Waradors are awfully similar. LOOK AT THIS.

Similar body and head shapes. Both have staffs. Both have one normal eye and one dark eye (although Ruben's are opposite from the Waradors).
My personal head canon is that the Waradors are living plushie Gate-Keeper-species.
...yeah. I obviously think too much about Subeta.
(I also want to see what Ruben's mate looks/looked like.)
I could see it. The only thing that's really off are the legs, but warradors being plushies explains that, and the other differences, pretty well.
.
I agree with this. Maybe whatever species the gatekeeper is, people really liked it and made plushies of it, and then somehow (maybe the gatekeeper used magic on them?) the plushies came to life and became their own species. Maybe waradors are considered a "subspecies" of whatever the gatekeeper is.
Maybe they're a related species?
Though I adore the headcanon of the waradors being living, transformed gate keeper plushies.
I feel like the gate keepers were one of the original inhabitants of Darkside until Maleria came and, well, messed them up. Like, took them over as slaves, like the unfortunate current gate keeper.
Maybe waradors were a sort of experiment dealing with the gatekeeper species in the past? I mean, we have two mad scientists in Darkside.
Though plushie coming to life makes me think of the spirits in Shadowglen, with possession, hrm... (Like Chucky, but less murderous, lol)
