You can't! I just realized that too XD The only thing you can do, now that they don't expire if you have a GA, is switch it to another pet.

[edit] This doesn't seem to be working for me. Is it working for anyone else?

I've noticed that leash changes (like changing text, etc) sometimes take a LONG time to update and a ton of hard refreshes. Maybe just refresh the leash page a bunch?

I tried to unleash my pet last night. Tried a lot of hard refreshing. Tried waiting it out. STILL LEASHED.
