All quests that are participating in the Quest-A-Thon have the chance to give an additional item prize that is either a book or a food item. The prices on these items (especially in the mid-rarity range) were causing some issues and I wanted to ensure there weren't any huge problems during the quest-a-thon!
(This update was pushed at 5:30AM subeta time, unfortunately because of the competition we can't reset the quests!)

This is a pretty cool thing, thanks for the update, Keith! No wonder I've been noticing books and food from every quest. Makes more sense now!
Thanks for the heads up! I was getting a little confuzzled, and I think this is gonna help the prices greatly!

See I thought something was up when the Wizard gave me a cake in addition to the tokens. xD
Thanks for the update :)
I am not old. I am gracefully aged
Right. Because the pricing on those items hasn't been an issue since the new restocking happened. So it was totally unforeseeable that it would become a bigger issue when there was incentive given for completing even more quests. That's okay. Only about 65k quests completed by users who were eager to participate.
I'm glad something is being done now, but why does staff always drop the ball on things like this?
The pricing on these items has been a problem long before the new restocking system. Especially with the change yesterday the shops should start putting out more items from this range.
We didn't drop the ball, I saw that this could be a problem down the line (it's not now, again, 65k quests completed with profits in line with the usual profits, number of completed quests is up, etc) further in the week and decided to just start handing out those items now to see if we can help it out before it's a problem ;).

I thought that the only restocking changes were in Book Nook, not other main shops?
The book nook is restocking more often, but there was a pretty big change on the way that rarities work in regards to restocking last night.

How far back are you looking at for numbers of usual profits/completed quests/etc if this has been a known issue since long before the changes in restocking? (I also disagree with that - it definitely made things worse from my experience.)
Also, I am sure many users have spent more on quests than they normally do with the challenge going on. I completed many that came at a loss or nearly zero profit, for example.
That's very nice but I had to quit most of Carl's quests because prices of items he asked for were over 100K.
The reason why a lot of items are causing issues pricing wise is that the NPC shops are still stocking worthless junk for hour after hour after hour. I'd have done some vending to try and get some of these items available but, going by another post, you've decreased the rarity of items we can get from vending.
This is super awesome~!!! :D The incentive and update is much appreciated=thanks! <3
Y U NO LIKE CAEK.
It's also very little help when the books being given out with these quests are ones which aren't asked for in quests. I just got Kawaii Zooky!! from Saggi - even though it's R72 it's selling in player shops for the grand sum of 2200 sP.
Alexander asks for up to r80 for books. There isn't a pool, it literally chooses any random book between r1-80.

[@[NPC] Allard M Chetwood] I didn't say I hated it! It was a lovely surprise! Don't yell at me. D:
He's obviously not asking for Kawaii Zooky!! :)
I agree with on the completing quests for the quest-a-thon at a loss :/ If anything these changes should've occurred a week before the quest-a-thon to have time for the prices to deflate again.
I also think that subeautique items shouldn't be asked for in quests.. they're all 300k+ in user shops and you don't get a payback higher than what you would spend buying the actual item in the subeautique shop as well. This same thing happened with library quests yesterday asking for all that glitters items. Even if I bought a 2k book and a 30k item from all that glitters/book nook the sP outcome was a loss. Shouldn't sP payouts be higher than the cost of the items stocking in shops?
edit: I also understand where is coming from. Regardless of the random selection between r1-80 for library quests, it seems like some books are favored more than others. Some common/normal books are 50k+ while some rare books are less than 10k. It just seems like the "random" book system needs to ask for items like ancient chai journal and kawaii kooky!! more than it does with this random selection system.
Awww. Too bad you can't reset our efforts. I'm pretty sure I didn't make too much profits for completing all quest that I was able to afford to do. But tomorrow is another day and I just want the pet slot and title.
How amout a trophy with the numbers of completed quests as an added incentive??
