I've been leaning towards wanting to use an art program that feels a little more professional because I feel like with the program I am using, my art has grown stale and reached the point where I'm not going to get what I want with it anymore. So! I'm really curious as to what kinds of art programs you guys use when you draw digitally :3
Personally I use Paint Tool SAI at the moment.
I've been using Sai and Photoshop for years. I draw on Sai then I give the final touches to it on Photoshop.
Photoshop is a great professional tool but it's kinda pricey! (also, I don't like the feel on it).
You can also try krita! like this speedpainting~ I've used it and it's great! it's just like Photoshop and Sai had a baby.
Good luck!
I've been using SAI and PS for after effects for a while.
I love SAI so damn much, but the problem is that it has too little brushes and makes it hard to do things such as backgrounds. So I now bought Clip Studio Paint which was on sale for only $15 to see if I had better luck with that! PS has too many useless features which make it really slow and harder to use, so now I'll try to avoid it as much as I can.
Anyways, I don't think the program changes much how your art looks in the end. I think it mostly make stuff easier and faster to achieve, but changing the program won't make you improve in a day.
Heh, I'm gonna hop on and also say I use SAI :P
I've just gotten so used to my custom keyboard shortcuts that leaving it feels like a big hassle.
I saw the Clip Studio Paint program going around o: How are you finding it ?
I haven't tried it yet :'D I bought it on a whim yesterday since it was for sale for just a few days (it's 70% off and the offer ends in less than a day) and I still didn't have the chance to check it out much. But I know it has a lot more brushes than SAI and that's what I wanted. I guess I'll keep using SAI for character drawings and go to Clip Studio when I want to draw backgrounds or more textured stuff. I also think it has the same after effects I currently add with PS, so I'll be replacing that as well.
But it was just $15 so I don't really mind if I end up not using it much haha
Ooh haha. I was thinking about purchasing it, but I'm pretty okay with SAI so far so I didn't end up buying it. I haven't been doing anything too fancy with brushes anyway, so SAI's currently suiting my purposes fine.
But yeah, I saw all the extra features for background drawing on Clip Studio and it's like wow!! That's seriously incredible. So many guidelines. So many tools!
MS Paint and Gimp...
Yeah, they're both free, but hey I mainly do traditional art. :P
Clip was what I was really wanting to try but I don't have the money to purchase it at this moment. It seems to be becoming popular though so it can't be too bad, I may have to find a way to hunt down some for the next time it's on sale.
I've never heard of Krita before but it looks like a lot of fun, I'll have to try it out!
I've got a few different programs I use, based on my mood. :D
SAI, MyPaint, Photoshop, and Manga Studio 5, primarily. I used to use Deleter Comicworks a lot for... Well, comics.
I love the heck out of MyPaint -- it's got a straightforward interface, and I can also run it on my Ubuntu machine. It's lightweight and does that whole "infinite canvas" thing.
-- The base version of Clip Studio Paint / Manga Studio is actually on sale right now. :D They'll probably have another sale sometime in the future, which is pretty cool if you do decide to get it!
I mainly use SAI, but I have a few other art programs on my computer; MyPaint, Krita, MediBang Paint Pro and Photoshop c:
I used MyPaint when I first started drawing with a tablet. It's great and super easy and simple to use, but you can't choose a canvas size which can be a pain. The infinite canvas is awesome though! Then I tried out SAI and I LOVE it, it's by far my favourite so far! I think I'll be sticking with it, but of course I do still have those other two programs to try out. I have tried Photoshop for doing artwork, but I just couldn't get the hang of it unfortunately :c I think I'll just stick to using it for editing and maybe adding colour/vibrance/filters and those sort of things to finished artworks.
Whoa late to the party...
But yeah, I would die to have SAI. Sadly the school I am going to only offer macs in the college bundle. I see these amazing things people make with sai, both painting and the amazing linearts bolstered by the line stability. It sucks photoshop doesn't offer any stabilizer for lines (lazy nezumi is for windows only too T.T).
I mainly use photoshop and dabble in illustrator, but I have art rage downloaded (simply for that line stabilizer) and I'm looking into manga studio.
-- have you ever thought about using Bootcamp on your Mac to dual boot Windows 7 or something? That way, you can have the best of both worlds. :D
On that note, how does Art Rage perform? I've been thinking about getting it for a couple years now, but lost the motivation once I started using MyPaint.
I totally would if I could. I've tried and looked up so many things to get SAI on mac, but pen pressure doesn't translate over through things like crossover, wine, parallels, and bootcamp. Or it doesn't work with my updated osx software.
I haven't played around with it too much, I used it for inking mainly and just transfer my lineart over to photoshop. I only have the trial version as of now and since I'm so accustomed to photoshop it took me a bit to adjust but it has a lot of potential from what I could see. I'll see if I can work with it more and report back.
How is mypaint and mangastudio?
I use "FireAlpaca" its a great program!
But im thinking about trying SAI...
SaraBug
I use MyPaint. I've tried photoshop and SAI, but didn't like either of them. MyPaint I've gotten really comfortable with, especially since I got my wacom tablet! I draw a sketch in my sketchpad, upload it, then go over it in mypaint ^^
