Apologizes in advance if this has already been suggested/is a really stupid idea.

What if there were a pet color that made the pet look like whatever real life animal it was based off of? It wouldn't look exactly like it, of course, but it could have the coloring of the animal, plus maybe have a few elements tweaked so fit closer to a real animal, if there isn't one specific parallel. These could also be drawn in a more realistic style than the normal pets.

Overlays are better fitted for that.

Also, not all pets are based on animals.

Ghostly, Dillema, Harvester and Aeanoid, namely, wouldn't work, and staff wants a color to be used on all pets.

Also, what is the Darkonite supposed to be? The Escalade? The Kora? The Warador?

Aeanoid could be a venus fly trap, Dillema a bison or toad, Darkonite some sort of feline, Escalade an insect or a llama, and Kora some sort of tentacle-y fish.

The only ones I really see being a problem are the humanoid ones (Ghostly, Harvester, and Warador). The rest I think could be tied to some animal, even if it had to be a bit loosely.

If a color can't be applicable to all the pets, it's not really a good color

Yeah no, I don't think that lore-wise, it would fit well.

Overlays, baby, overlays

I'm not feeling this suggestion. They are all imaginary animals, some of which are completely random in design and not based on a real-life animal at all. I mean, just look at the Donadak. It's like sentient rocks. I like that they are different and unique from our real world.

Also, I believe it's canon in Subeta lore that Dillemas are sentient plush toys, not...bison or toads. =|

I can see the flaws in my original idea. However, the more I thought about it, the more it reminded me of something I had seen before. This realistic Pokemon artwork did a great job of adapting cartoon designs to more realistic ones. Perhaps something like this could be done for the pets that are way out there.

It's an interesting concept, but ultimately I think it'd be warping the aesthetic Subeta is aiming for-- and especially warping the lore. In the world of Subeta, the pets are realistic. There's no other animals to compare them to. While seeing them very detailed would be interesting, I think that's better to be left to fanart. We'd be waiting for months for pets to come out in the colour because of the level of detail required to make them more realistic (not to mention the amount of anatomy studies). Since we're still waiting on some colours of pets that have been on the site for years, this colour isn't really something I'd like to see take up our artists' time. Interesting concept-- wouldn't translate feasibly. Plus, what sort of name could it be given? How would the bottle art look? I'm not sure this is a gap that Subeta needs to fill.

But that basically adds real-world "realistic" textures to existing Pokemon. It looks super cool, and it would make for a hella cool overlay. But considering subeta's lore (and even artwork) limitations, something like this probably wouldn't work for an official pet color.

I feel like a lot of these realistic pokemon suffer from same-face syndrome a lot more than Sugimori's original designs, and I'm not sure I'd want that for Subeta.

Like, Giratina and Kyurem go from amazing, unique concepts to things I feel like really similar, now.

I've seen some really cool looking realistic pokemon designs, and in all honesty I didn't look very closely at the ones linked because I'm really just waiting on my puppy to go back to sleep so I can go to bed myself (she's not enjoying the kennel).

I don't think that would be an issue with subeta pets, since they're mostly pretty different as-is, but yeah I still don't think we need to make things on subeta realistic compared to the real world as far as pet colors go :L

we need a puppy color.

feli puppies

mallarchy puppies

mortiking puppies

everything puppies

But yeah "realistic pokemon" is pretty much just HD mega evolution, make them bigger and with more spikes and I'm not fond of how it's designed because I like my goofy little pokemons
