Hey so I've had a lot of struggles with white, they always get denied for being flat/stickery. REason why I think this happens is that the item is white, and my highlighting layers won't show, there fore that -2 layers of my usual shading :l

Does anyone have a step to step guide on white shading orrrr???? ;w;

I use softlight for highliting and multiply for shading.

I'd suggest looking at on-site white items and studying their layering composition -- in most cases, there are less layers of shading than your typical '3-5 layers'.

Personally, I tend to make everything rather pale, except for one layer of darker shadows -- usually the places where fabric folds for example, because it must be dark enough to suggest depth. I don't have my tablet at the moment, but I can draw a quick example if you'd like.

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll definitely look at some onsite CWs and see the layering.

I would greatly appreciate it if you can draw a quick example when you are free! ;w;

This was a white CI I did, but it got denied for being flat/stickery

could you perhaps smail me the larger size of the CI? I feel like there is too much grey at the moment, but it's hard to explain. If you don't mind, I could try to retouch it just to show you what I mean (:

(I'll be back in about an hour, I'll post some onsite white items that better explain the white vs. shading issue)

To cut in...!

I think part of your problem might be that you use multiply layers for your shading - I use them sometimes, but it's often easier to have more control over your values when you use hand-picked tones for your grays!!

My shading rule of thumb is that at 50% view (or, how large it'd be on the HA) I want to be able to pick out at least 3 different shades (including the base). :)

Yeeeep you are right ;w; I use a LOT of multiply layers. Hand picked shades does feel easier to get a certain colour tho! I added some normal layers with white and darker shadings with help from Still probably a lot to work on xD
